Except in Europe where a lot of the Verbatim 16x non-printable DVD+/-R media is Made in Japan by Taiyo Yuden in addition to the MCC media Made in India by Moser Baer or Made in Taiwan by CMC or Prodisc.

Bought 8-50pack spindles of MCC004 Neo-Verbies recently (bought in 2 trips to the local blanks store - what can I say I can't get enough of MCC media!) and just found out that on the 2nd trip the spindles I got were Prodisc MIT. The Sans Serif Font still holds true for Prodisc MIT (8089E3014+04380E10) and Serif font for CMC MIT (PAPA30LK04150643 1). Also holds true for DVD-R Neo-Verbies (MCC 03RG20 > MAP643LK01105278 6). The slight color difference of the label (CMC - pinkish, Prodisc - purplish) is also evident on the two DVD+R spindles, as well as other tell-tale packaging differences. From experience, the following is a compilation of packaging differences between CMC- and Prodisc-manufactured Neo-Verbies:

1. Serif LOCK<->OPEN font for CMC, Sans Serif LOCK<->OPEN font for Prodisc
2. Rectangular recess on top of the CMC spindle, no recess for Prodisc spindles
3. Pinkish hue on the CMC spindle graphic of the topmost protective paper layer/label, purplish hue for Prodisc
4. Longer lip on the CMC spindle (plastic wrap/label doesn't reach the top of the lip), shorter lip on the Prodisc spindles (label reaches up and over the lip of the spindle)

There's also a slight difference in spacer location (DVD+R):

5. 2 spacers stacked on top of each other over the 2 paper layers for the CMC spindle while spacer-paper-spacer-paper arrangement for the Prodisc spindles.

This doesn't hold true for my DVD-R Neo-Verbies though as the spacers on the MCC 03RG20 CMC MIT 50pack spindles I've purchased follow the spacer arrangement of the Prodisc spindles while exhibiting the first 4 distinctions. As I don't have any Prodisc MIT DVD-R spindles I can't check if Neo-Verbie DVD-Rs follow #5. I've also noticed that the raised circle around the center hub of CMC-spindles are more rounded (cross-sectionally) as compared to the Prodisc-spindles which are more flat/squarish/sharper-edged. Also with side-by-side comparison the clear plastic of the CMC spindle is more transparent and has a neutral tone as compared to the Prodisc spindle that is bluish in tinge and foggier/more opaque in translucency.

Thanks to this forum for being the best source of in-depth info for blanks. I went from brand-fooled media buyer to a blanks connoisseur and expert with all the freaks' contributions in here.

And yes, I'm me, and I am now a mediaholic/addict.

Thanks for that very through post. It will definitely help me identify the CMC made stuff for next time.
