And with this comparison, you've probably helped out some people that don't know better. Cool.

All in all, though, the GQ media isn't as bad as it could have been. :/

There isn't anything inherently wrong with GQ media. It all depends on the country of manufacture and the actual media. In the past, you could get genuine MIT Sony media from them, and it burned well.

I assume that this new media is MIC using borrowed MCC codes, and now they are doing the same thing as other house brands like Playo, NexxTech, and Dynex. It's a race to the bottom, but one that can not be specifically blamed on GQ. This is just market economics in general.

I was specifically talking about matix's fake MCC media being cruddy [I had already been discussing it with matix, and it was like the "continuation" of the conversation]. I wasn't talking about "those" GQ, as in all GQ. I remember well that people liked the Sony GQ stuff, and am still not saying that all GQ is bad.

What makes these Cruddy?
I bought a 100 pack of GQ yesterday and these were MCC004
I have an LG burner so i cant test them.
Are these dvds really that bad?

Lol now that is funny, the real stuff only costs 3 bucks more per 100 discs.

@ pixiestix - well some people are a little fussy on these forums and don't like getting too many errors. The discs you got are probably going to work fine. They might have 10x more errors than genuine Verbatim discs but it probably won't cause any drama for you at all despite that.

Would I trust them to last years and years... no. But as cheap everyday discs you probably won't encounter any problems.

I got some crappy fake MCC003 discs a while ago. I just use them for watching stuff then pretty much never use again after I watched. They work good even in my fussy dvd player. The error levels are fairly high and unimpressive but hey, they really aren't too bad.

I believe they had some sort of recording and/or playback issue [unfortunately, this part of the conversation was carried in the chatbox, not in a thread], and the discs just weren't performing quite as well as he had wanted/needed. The scans back this up a bit.

As far as general everyday use, the scan on the fake media is passable if it's unimportant data on a tolerant drive. Here, I agree with cd pirate.
