Hi

I bought GR8 DVD-R and the seller told me the disks are TYG02 Taiyo Yuden

Genuine

Welcome to the forum!

There's another thread on these discs in here somewhere, and I believe the general opinion was "fake".

To be sure, take a look at the code around the hub of the disc (kinda hard to see unless you hold the disc to the light in a certain way) - there should be a code starting with GG.

If that code's not there, then I'm afraid the discs are not genuine.

You might try to find Plextor branded media, Panasonic DVD-R media that is Made in Japan or Verbatim media that is Made in Japan if you want to shop B&M, but then again these only have 16x DVD+/-R and CD-R...
Or you could order from overseas which will be very expensive though.

Hi popopopo, welcome to CDFreaks!

Have you considered the alternative of just getting some Verbatim media instead?

These days I think Verbatim 16x media is just as good if not better than Taiyo Yuden 16x media and it's usually much easier to find.

Just a suggestion.

Sadly MIJ Panasonics are vanishing and more and more MII Panasonics show up.

, duno if my verbies are a bad batch or what but burnt 3 dvds 1 done at 8x another @12x and another @16X and their scoring bad

There's only the one PIF spike at the beginning - try running the scan again, might be something to do with the drive spinning up.

And you love TYG03, wait til you try YUDEN000 T02

right some more scans also noticed the ones that are scanning badly have spots in the dye on the inner edge

but used my last mcc verbie for u evilboy

, also i set them off again after they do that and its the same no matter what

I've used both and my TYG03 beats T02 (some T02 scan nicer than some TYG03 discs though) but burning @16X (TYG03)is better than burning@8X (T02)

I should get 100 Sony T02 today (I hope) as the bag was lost during my brother's mother-in-law flight
