The label on the cake box the falcons came in says "Made in UAE" just like in the image in the first post.

stamper code: C2BH A24A HB08170455A612
serial number: L00606G10302

Interestingly, to me anyway, is that there is another much harder to read serial like number printed on the top of the hub which I can only read backwards through the bottom of the disc. See exhibit A if I'm not explaining well enough.

second serial?: L10127G1030701

Update FTI made in UAE are legit ricoh's.
RICOHJPN R03 (16x)/RICOHJPN D01 067 (8x DL)
They are made by FTI and use official ricoh stampers. FTI has a license to make ricoh media.

The TDK stampers, FTI uses are official as well.

Unconfirmed at this time are the Mitsubishi 8x and MPO cd-r stampers.
As soon as more information comes up I will post a long.

In the meantime some FTI EMTEC +R 16x scans (plextor, to lazy to flash the philips to benq) should be up in less then 24 hours on cdrlabs forums.

Are they using also Ricoh's dye or just their stampers?
So now the TDK media are made by MBI, CMC, TMI and FTI?
Why did FTI manufacture CD-R media with MPO ATIP? This ATIP is not so well supported... Or were they just manufacturing outsourced media for MPO?
According to dvd-r.jpn.org FTI also manufactured some media with KIC01RG080 MID code. Is it true?

According to my information it's fully licensed ricoh product, which means it's
made according to ricoh charasteristics.

YES

Don't know but it appears that FTI uses MPO for the gold cd-r's. That might sound more logical.

Thanks for all that interesting informations. Is there any other DL manufacturer from other part of world than Far East and India?
Does MPO still produce media in their French plant?

Last rumours about MPO suggest that there no longer is a standard production.
Specific production might still be possible, if a customer with enough money demands it.

I never have seen or heard of these. Can you get a DVDInfo scan and post the media type and name.

has anybody had success in burning these? Using pioneer 111D with tdb1.19. I've burned over 100 DL verbatims with no problem. With the falcons so far I've managed to get 2 decent burns and 6 coasters (all 6 gave me calibrated power errors at layer break).

Been trying to update my firmware for several weeks now but rpc1 site is still down (tdb.rpc1.org is back up but downloads don't work yet).

Update: Discovered Media Code Speed Edit, a very handy firmware tool by ala42, and modded the latest official (1.29) 111d firmware. Although the firmware already included updated media codes so i didn't have to change anything to get full 8x write capabilities with the falcons.

I now can burn the falcons at up to 8x. I haven't had a power calibration error and no coasters since the firmware update. The first couple I burned at 8x gave some minor transfer spikes but were all readable. I moved down to 6x and have managed to burn 22 discs that show excellent transfer reads like the one posted here. They may not be verbatims but they're at least 0.40 cents/disc cheaper and they seem to produce decent burns, at least with my pioneer 111d. As for how long they last once burned, well only time will tell.

Have burned over 100 of these at 8X, no coasters, mostly with my Lite-on DH-20A4P with the enhanced 9P59 firmware, and just recently with my new DH-20A4P and 9P54 firmware(for some reason, enhanced firmware didn't work as well on the new one). Burn scans have ranged from good to very good(92 to 95 w/ discspeed). Also good burns w/ Optiarc AD7200 and Pio 115. Here's one of my latest. Love these discs! 8X printable DL at 1/2 the price of Verbatim's with consistent quality. Still a big Verbatim fan, and almost all my single-layer burning is on T-Y's, but these are making my hobby MUCH more affordable.

Don't know if anyone else out there is having as much fun with these as I am, but thought I'd post a little useful info. Went up to Meritline to order more, and found they were out of stock. Looked around and found a few more sellers out of stock. E-mailed Falcon, and they assured me that Meritline intends to re-stock in the next two weeks, and they(Falcon) have plenty of them in stock. Falcon got back to me the same day with an answer. Good people over there. Thanks!

I have a very good experience with FTI media too.
Actually, I found them much better in terms of quality and consistency than Verbatim or TY () 16x media. It is a pity that they are still not too widespread in European market.

Forgive me for going off-topic for a moment, but have you tried Falcon's 16X DVD-R's? Pretty happy with the burns I get from my burners on TYG03's, but was thinking of trying some Falcon DVD-R's after my good experience with the DL's.

Falcon's 16X DVD-R (TTH02 MID code) media are one of the best available SL media at the moment. I prefer them over Verbatim media. Their +R media (with either Ricoh or FTI's own MID code) are great too.

Tried some TDK 16X DVD-R white inkjet printables from Meritline last summer with MID TTH02(no longer in stock). Very good to excellent burns in all my burners. Wonder who made them? Noticed in the RICOH DVD+R DL thread that TDK is selling Falcon dual-layers. Definitely will be ordering some Falcon SL's from Meritline as well as the DL's when they are back in stock. Thanks for your help. Exactly what I needed to know.
A shame these aren't readily available in Europe. But seems likely that they will become more popular if FTI continues to put out such a high-quality product. By the way, what is FTI's MID for +R's? Do you know if it is supported by Lite-on or Optiarc firmwares? Thanks again!

And now, back on topic.
Falcon 8X DL burned at 8X with Nero 7 on Optiarc AD-7200A.
Far from the best burn I've had, but even a bad burn with these is pretty decent.

FTI has its own MIDs for all types of recordable DVDs, but in the cases of DL and -R media they are using mostly Ricoh & TDK codes:

DVD+R - FTI-016-000
DVD-R - FTI RG16
DVD+R DL - FTI R08-065 (8x rated), FTI D08-000 (2.4x, not used anymore)
DVD-R DL - FTI RGD08

Lite-on DH-20A4P has a firmware support for their DVD+R and DVD-R own MIDs (and can write them at 16x speed), Optiarc 7200 supports all FTI's MIDs.
