Google is working on a built-in Cast option for its Chrome browser that makes the currently required plugin obsolete. Starting with Chrome 51 the cast feature will become available in the Hamburger menu on the right top of the browser.

When the Cast icon is clicked in the browser the user can pick to which device web content should be streamed. The plugin that is currently required, will continue to work but is no longer needed.
The successor for Chrome 51, Chrome 52 will introduce another streaming feature. Starting with that version it should become possible to stream to a Hangouts conversation. This is possible using the same Cast button.
