Microsoft improves Edge browser: now safer, faster and more stable

Microsoft has made the default browser of Windows 10, Edge, more safe. The browser is now protected against DLL injections and the new rendering engine no longer uses ActiveX and Browser Helper Objects. This should better protect the user against so-called binary injection attacks.

Cybercriminals are increasingly interested in browsers. If they are able to e.g. inject advertisements in pages the user visits they can earn good money, according to Microsoft. However also browser injections are becoming more popular. The user notices this when suddenly a toolbar is added to the browser or the startpage of the browser is silently changed.

With the latest version of Microsoft Edge this is no longer possible, Microsoft claims. The browser blocks unauthorized DLL injections except if they are part of a Windows component or if it's a signed driver for a device."DLLs that are either Microsoft-signed, or WHQL-signed, will be allowed to load, and all others will be blocked", the software giant writes on its blog.

According to Microsoft the changes make browsing with Edge safer, faster and more stable.
