i brought a 50 tub of hyundai 8X +R for £13.50,not realising they were on the list, the shop that sold them said they were made by hyundai with there own dye and i would have no trouble with them. i ran one through dvd identifier and it came up as ty (alarm bells ringing in my ears) so i did a create data disc with nero cd speed (see attachment) i rang him to complaine so he contacyed his supplier and they admitted that they were infosmart but used the ty mid code because its the most compatable . which is total dross. he gave me a full refund and appologised and now is selling them with the warning that they are infosmart with the ty leadin info.

Don't those Hyundai +R fakes violate the Philips +R licensing agreement, either on Hyundai's part or Infosmart's? I thought -R fakes were legal (albeit immoral) but that TY had some legal standing with regards to +R fakes.

Just a thought, but everyone could order the actual TY branded discs and avoid the hassle.

Newbie here. After reading this thread, I realized that the TY's I got off of ebay are probably fake. I didn't know about fake media codes. There is no GG or TG in the serial #'s and the scan results looked bad I think( the PO and PIF #'s were very high). I've burned about 15 disks at 8x and 12x so far with no problems and they play perfect on my dvd player. I had no reason to think that they were fake until I came to this forum lol. Should I worry? Are these fakes going to stop working a few years from now or something?

if they are fakes then they will probley last only a few months before you have problems.

a bit more info would have been more help full to, like what brand they are and possibly a scan pic.

Here is a pic. There is no brand. I was unaware of fake TY's. What should I do? Throw out the 85 I have left and spend another $40?

usualy the price gives them away, if they are less then £6 uk pounds for 25 then they are too cheap and not real, you can e-mail them and ask were they were made if its not japan or don`t even show country of manufacture then avoid them.

Has anybody who has medias that are fakes TY and also a Plextor PX-716A burner had the idea of burning at least 3 in a row to see:

if with Autostrategy ON he gets any improvement in the burns

like what is described in this post by "Beeder"
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...6&postcount=15

This improvement has been observed on a media "only supported by Autostrategy" with the early firmwares (1.01 or 1.02) of the PX-716A

The only advise during that experiment would be not to burn "true" Taiyo Yuden of the same MID code at the same time ...

Hm. Using such an expensive drive to "tame" fake media... sounds like an insult to Plextor.

I agree with you Kenshin it sounds like an insult to Plextor, but ...

I have seen people who have bought up to 250 DVD's through the internet and they realise late that they are probably "fakes". So that is nearly more money than a new drive.
I am just trying to find a decent solution for these people.
I have no fakes so far so I am asking here.

If it works more or less it will on the opposite be a promotion for the PX-716A and it's Autostrategy feature ...

I do not want to promote the use of fake and cheap MID codes: I think peolple should be able to recognize them and return them after an unlucky buy ...

I am also concerned about the influence of the use of such fakes could have on the Autostrategy.
Does it "kill" or not the datas stored in the Database ?
This point is very unclear to me ...

that mite help, as the TY leadin data is false and is only there so they will burn on any device.

If you are going to use a PX-716A burner with the setting AutoStrategy on,
