Best storage method for DVDs?

Well, looking for a reasonable storage method for DVD Backups. The best option obviously seems like using the spindles would be the way to go, however, accessibility is important as well. CaseLogic type holders have a tendancy to scratch/scuff the discs and I certainly don't want to ruin DVD Backups before their time is up.

So what are my options considering this? DVD Cases, Spindles, anything else I'm missing? How do you guys normally store your backups to keep them out of harms way?

Re: Best storage method for DVDs?

The normal DVD cases that only hold the disc by the inner ring are best. Those thin digipacks (thin CD caddies) can be good for compact and safe storage.

As always, make sure you store in a low humidity environment that is climate controlled with no quick temperature changes!

I want really compact storage so I use CaseLogic cases and be very careful so I don't scratch the disc. Also I store them sideways so the weight of one disc will not be pressed on another.

Re: Best storage method for DVDs?

Thanks Jucius. I was actually looking at the double-capacity DVD Cases. They intrigued me a bit considering that you could get 100 of them for about the price of a 200 DVD Holder. I personally like having the DVD cases. Give me a silver sharpie and I'd be all set. Hrm, still gotta decide as I'm really not sure what I want to do yet. hehe, so far all my new backups that I know work are being put on a spindle - the others are still in a CaseLogic since they actually need redone anyway.

Hrm, any thoughts on the double-capacity cases? The good, the bad, the ugly?

Re: Best storage method for DVDs?

I use the double-disc DVD boxes and keep 2 movies in each one. I get them at http://www.accaproducts.com/ for about $.30 each. Get the black ones, for UV protection.

Thanks, rdgrimes. They were the ones I was looking at so that answers the question perfectly.
