I was wondering if anyone can recommend some good sites to purchase blank media from.

I recently purchased a LiteOn Lightscribe DVD burner but noticed in the manual that there are a number of brands of media they recommend that I cannot get at my local stores. In particular:

DVD+R: CMC, MBI, Mitsubishi, Taiyo-Yuden, TDK

DVD+R9: Mitsubishi, Ricoh, Ritek

Lightscribe CD-R: CMC, MCC, MBI

Lightscribe DVD+R: CMC, MCC, MBI

Two brands I can get locally, where applicable, are Sony and HP.

I've had no problems burning to Sony DVD+R media and would like to stick to what's recommended, but like I said a lot of the brands they list I cannot get locally. As this is my first foray into searching for media, the places I've already checked have come up short. So I thought I'd pose the question to the experts.

Where are you located, if outside the USA online ordering is probably your best best.

CMC can be found under the HP brand.
MBI (Moser Baer India) can be found under the Imation brand.
Mitsubishi media is called Verbatim outside of Asia.

Taiyo Yuden can be found online (SVP, Rima, Supermediastore...)

Yep, we need to know where you're located so we can recommend the right places to buy

And I'd ignore the Ritek recommendation, at least for now, as there are far more consistent brands/manufacturers

In addition the tables in drive handbooks are more in line with what media id write strategies are in the drives database as opposed to what is actually decent media for that drive.

Well if all you can get is sony, it's not that bad. Burnt at optimal speeds, those discs are pretty good.

I agree - Sony coded discs under the Sony brand are usually pretty good. Watch out for Made in India Sony's though - these are Moser Baer India produced discs apparently, and aren't as good (at least in my experience)

I've always said in this forum that Sony coded DVD media is quite good. Always got a reliable burn with SONY08D1 coded discs.

Not as good as the likes of Verbatim and TY but still very good nonetheless.

Actually, you can get both Mitsubishi and Verbatim media in Singapore and China!

^ If you want 16x Verbs in the UK, be it + or -, SVP are cheaper, and they sell in 25 spindles which may be preferable. Most importantly you can choose between TY and MCC for MIDS.

Mitsubishi = Verbatim. Easy to find. Usually good quality.

MBI = Moser Bauer India. Imation and many others. Variable quality.

Taiyo-Yuden = Plextor +R or Japanese made Panasonic -R. Good quality.

TDK can be just about anything. The ones sold here are
+R TDK003 reasonably good quality.

HP discs sold here are CMC. Reasonably good quality.

Hi,
The best ranking you gave was "good." Is Taiyo-Yuden therefore the "best"?

And if so, where would one 100 packs in the US? I checked supermediastore and they only have Phillips and HP in Lightscribe 100 packs.
