Best Lightscribe DVD Media? Verbs or HP?

I am planning to buy some lightscribe DVD media. Currently I could find only two brands - HP and Verbs. What are your experiences with these? And what dyes are they?

Re: Best Lightscribe DVD Media? Verbs or HP?

I think all the label surface material is the same. The new 1.2 surface reduces contrast by default to increase the speed of the label burn, but has become so unpopular that there is a Contrast Enhancement Utility provided by Lightscribe that basically negates any time savings but gets quality back up where it was before.

From a pure data standpoint, I would buy Verbatim, for DVD at the very least. However, the downside of DVD Lightscribe is that the label surface is underneath the plastic layer so that it looks kinda fuzzy and soft compared to the CD media, which has the label surface much closer to the top of the plastic layer.

HP = CMC. If it's the 52x CD-R or the 8x DVD media, they're ok. For 16x DVD media I would use Verbies, as CMC have quality issues with their 16x media.

I got two discs of HP LS +R 8X and they are CMC MAGE01 which is very good , I don't have LS drive though , I bought the 2 discs just in case I'd ever get a LS drive

Ok, I saw 16 X Verbs for $9.99 for a 10 pack...maybe I'll pick those or I'll try to look for something cheaper.

Who told you that? From the burns i've done I would say that is incorrect, but to be honest I am now not 100% sure.

The Lightscribe site and various sites when I was searching to learn the differences between the 1.2 media and the earlier versions.

Re: Best Lightscribe DVD Media? Verbs or HP?

I picked up a box of Verbs. It didnt mention LS 1.2 so I am assuming they are 1.0. It took 20 mins to burn the cover image. AM quite happy with it. Verb LS media - MCC 004 is great!

Cool - glad you found the media and it produced good results.

There is a ton of great stuff at the Lightscribe.com website too.

Happy burning.

Check newegg from time to time if you want more. Sometimes they run specials on the the 20pk (really 2 10pks) of Verbatim for $9.99 + free shipping.

BTW, some the HP 8x+R's have been known to be MCC 003.
