umm, how can I get it to work? Its just a bunch of avi files, other avi's work fine but this bunch doesnt want to so I'm guessing its a 'non-suitable stream', can I make it a 'suitable stream'?

avi isn't avi.

It can be uncompressed avi, divx, xvid (all mpeg4) or just a wrong named file-extension...

Use GSpot an find out what codecs it uses.
If it has VBR audio, then uncompress the audio and save the file again.

You can use VirtualDub for that.

It says it uses a DX50/divx.

I'm sorry, I still dont understand how I can make the avi's'(or whatever they are) work. I mean they run fine on the computer but when I try to compile them for the dvd nero gives me that error, it has never done that with me beofre.

There is a brief watermarked divx logo that shows when its starting up.

It appears to work in power producer but I dont want to use that since it lacks the feautres nero has... Is there a way to update my nero dvd authoring tool to make it work?

Don't know if it'll help but upgrade from 6.6.0.5. This version had some strange problems as I recall.

In the Divx codec I think you can disable the watermark that shows briefly at the start.

oh theres nothing wrong with the divx watermark, it went away with the other avi's after I compiled them and even if they stay its no big deal, it shows for like 3 seconds and dissapears

I'll see what I can do with the upgrade part, I hope that does help...

I had the same error and found that the .avi file that was causing the problem was being "SmartEncoded". Not so smart it would seem as disabling Nero SmartEncoding fixed the problem.

Solution to: unable to prepare data for recording: prepare session failed: transcoding of videos failed.

this is in response to a problem in making a DVD video using nero vision express and yes it is a bug where the user is only given two options 1. PAL and 2 NTSC (yes, literally it is bug and yes you cant and you must not select your OWN COUNTRY HOME INSTEAD ONLY SELECT EITHER PAL OR NTSC FORMAT) as shown in the picture.

If you do <country name> then you are ought to get this error but if you choose then you will be able to successfuly burn your DVD.

(any comment is appreciated, email me if I need to rephrase this one out na.mleigh@na-net.ornl.gov)

I was having the same issue with a bunch of AVI files, that had previously worked just fine until I formatted my hard drive and re-installed Nero. I thought it was an issue with codecs or some rubbish.

I followed the advice in this forum of "disable nero smart encoder" in the video options (using Nero 8).

Bazing! Now working. Thankyou.

I too am having a similar error. I am using Nero 8 with vision 5. I am trying to burn a picture slide show with music VCD. I am able to make the whole projet, but when I go to burn it says

"UNABLE TO RECORD DATA FOR RECORDING: TRANSCODING OF VIDEOS FAILED(INTERAL ERROR 1104[/COLOR]" The says would you like to save this error in a log so that it can be useful in future?

I tried going into video options, goint to video mode and "NTSC" then disablling the nero smart decoder.
This does not work.

Can anyone help me please?

I was having the same problem and disabling "Smart Encoding" did not work for me either. Then I tried to run NeroVision as the adminstrator and it worked like a charm, although my ID was already a part of the Administrator Group in XP. I don't know what could have caused Nero not to realize that. But as long as it works for now, I will figure out the problem with my ID later.

Here is what you do:

- Right click on "Nero Vision.exe" (or the short cut) and select "Run As"
- Select the second button "The following user:" and enter the adminstrator credentials to run the application.

That worked for me. Good luck!
