Whilst trying to burn a DVD project using Ulead Workshop 2 I am advised that there is plenty of space on the blank DVD, in other words the video I'm burning is 4.0GB and the empty DVD is 4.4GB which in theory gives me plenty of space. Then after 28 Minutes I am told 'There is not enough space on the disc'. The complete video file is 2 hours and 10 minutes long and I have selected the 'Long play option'. The video was originally recorded onto S-VHS video tape so there should not be any noticeable loss in quality. Where am I going wrong?

Safe it as an image and burn it then using ImgBurn.

Found out that the estimated file size I was trying to burn was 4.4GB, not the estimated 4.0GB as the software was prompting me.
Anyway I edited about 20 minutes leaving the video 1 hour and 50 minutes long, and it burned and made a perfect DVD.
I will remember to make future video's with a maximum time of 1 hour 50 mins.

4.38 Gb is the normal available space on a SL DVD.

Time is not the problem, I've fitted movies of 2 1/2 hours + on to DVD without problems.

There should be a setting within your software to reduce the resolution/quality to fit a standard DVD.

The advice from chef about an image and ImgBurn is very good advice.

There should be a 'Fit to disc' option, it would save a lot of effort.

If it won't fit, you could use DVDShrink afterwards.

One should not have to use DVD Shrink, the Workshop 2 should have a 'Fit to disc' option and use all the 4.38GB space available thus making the quality the best possible.
Often I've made a disc which has used just 3.0GB or 3.2GB so I assume the rest of the disc is un-used.
