Chickenman,
In your tutorial you refer (note 2) to editing the DVD2AVI script file to convert the 2.35:1 signal to 16:9. I thought I'd try that, but it failed - 3 times. Each time I received an error message saying that CCTSP has performed an illegal operation and would shut down.
I'm now running it straight through, with the standard script, and it's working fine.
Any ideas?

Also, you mention using MPEG2DEC2.dll. I don't seem to have that file available; I assume it's supposed to be part of the DVD2SVCD package?

Cheers,
Dik.

Hmm... well the 2.3:1 to 16:9 has worked well for me everytime for the past year or so. All I can suggest is to double check the settings & figures your using. Can you post one of your failed log files if you still have it?

Yes, mpeg2dec2.dll comes with the latest DVD2SVCD package, it should be in your DVD2SVCD/MPEGDec folder with the normal mpeg2dec.fll file. Its 412 kb long and mines dated 8/4/2002 (thats D/M/Y).
I assume you have the latest D2V version 1.1.0 build 1 with build 1c update?

Cm, I'm running v1.09 build 3, downloaded on 11/11/02 (so I thought it was fairly recent) and the 1c update.
The MPEG2Dec folder only contains 5 files - 2 doc files (readme and copying) and 3 sample.avs files.

Sorry, don't have the log files 'cos I keep running out of HD space - aarrrggghhh - and am deleteing everything I don't need. Just did T2-Judgement day, ran out of space after the first bin/cue file, finally got it and ended up with 29mb left. Cutting it a bit fine, huh? Boy, what fun.

As for the script file, I typed it in each time (carefully!). I did notice that the second line of your script ends with 0.6, whereas the default settings end with 0.75. I assume changing this to 0.6 shouldn't be the problem?

Another question which I hope isn't too dumb - what are the overheads in creating chapters? My first movie (no chapters) gave me a fraction under an hour per disc. For T2, I used the internal ripper and the DVD chapters and got about 50 mins. , presumably due to the chapters.
Is there any advantage in manually creating chapter points as opposed to using the DVD points?

One more question, completely off-topic. Do you know an easy way to stop a chook that's gone broody? Or do we just assign it to the soup pot?

Cheers.

OK, I've just installed the latest version + update, but the MPEG2Dec folder is still the same. The file you mentioned, she no there. Oh dear.

OK, another update. I've edited the script file, running the latest version of DVD2SVCD, and have made it past the point where I kept crashing. It looks like it may have been a bug in v1.0.9?

Reading the advanced guide (from the doom9 site) it would appear unlikely that the Bicubic resize value of 0.75, compared to 0.6 in the latest version, is the cause of my problems.

Boy, the learning curve on this stuff is almost vertical

PM me your email and I'll send you mpeg2enc2.dll By the way if the mpeg2dec folder has only 5 files, 2 dox and 3 sample scripts, then where is your mpeg2dec.dll file? Arr... you have not turned on View All files !!! Do that and I'm sure you will find then both.

Chapters create absolutely NO overhead. The DVD chapters obviouisly point to special events in the movie while manual ones point to nothing in particular. Your choice.

Your right, learning curve is almost vertical, I'm finding that out with DVDR stuff also !

Off Topic:
To cure a broody chook, put it in a wire cage off the floor (couple of bricks) so it cant sit down and get warm/brood. A few days and it will be fine.

Your script file to convert to 16:9 now works fine. I used the internal ripper to get the DVD chapters, modified the script file and let 'er rip (pardon the pun).

I did wonder why, if I didn't have an MPEG2Dec file, it still worked ok........dumb!!!

Thanks for your help, time for a new thread

Hi,

Mine was also defaulted to MPEG3DEC3.dll

I found MPEG2DEC2.dll in

C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\Avisynth2 Plugins\Mpeg2dec\MPEG2DEC2.dll

So I just mapped the [...] to that dir.

Will see how it goes.

ALSO, after installing CCE 2.5, I have the "Convert divx3 to Divx4" greyed out, (no option to select).

Any tips

Thanks

Mo

AVISynth 2.5.x will autoload any plugins in its plugin directory (the one set in your registry).

So if you use MPEG2Source(""), then you don't need to actually load mpeg2decx.dll if one is in the plugin directory.

Latest version of MPEG2Dec is MPEG2Dec3 v1.10 I believe. Not sure how much point there is using it, if you aren't going to use any of its extra features though I guess resizing in YV12 instead of YUY2 may give a small speed increase. Just make sure that you add converttoYUY2() at the end of your script.

C_D, in DVD2SVCD you need to point to the version of mpeg2dec?.dll to want to use, its not autoloaded.

mowtown75, the latest ver of DVD2SVCD (came out last week ) comes with mpeg2dec3.dll so use that as its much faster than the ...2.dll I'm in the process of updating the Tutorial.

The "Convert divx3 to Divx4" will be greyed out if you do not have the DivX3 codec installed. If WMP plays the AVI for you fine, then no need to install the Div3 codec. Just ignor that step.

C_Man,

Thanks, WMP does play the original

"Ladies_Man_divx_dvdrip.avi" file.

The final product: "bbMPEG_Muxed_File00.mpg" was burnt as SVCD using Nero, but I get bad colors.

Please see my post in newbies:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread....threadid=74944

for more info.

Advice appreciated.

thanks

Well then it is not in the default AVISynth plugin directory that is set in the registry.

Any plugin that is, is autoloaded.
