Ok here we go :
I have to copy +- 100 Vhs Tapes to Dvd with my Dvd Recorder (external).
I can choose 4 or 5 different recordingsettings, such as LP,SP and so on.
If I take the best quality to record,2 hours can be recorded on one Dvd. If u choose lower,4hours and the lowest can record 6 or 9 hours I think.
Now : I would like to know which quality I have to take. I don t want to lose my videoquality but also don t want to spend needless Dvd's.
So : is the worst recording Dvdquality still better than VHSquality or do I have to take for example LP (4hours/dvd) ?
Another question :
After I recorded the Dvd's,I would like to copy them to my HD in Vob-files.
But this will be Vobfiles of 4 (or 6-9) hours in one piece. They have to be cutted in pieces of 2 hours/file. Is that possible without converting the files to avi/mpg because that would take a while and I don t wanna lose quality.
Thanx 4 the help and sorry 4 my bad english

The resolution of LP recording is normally acceptable for recording VHS tapes for most recorders (they have about the same resoution). Do not use 6 or 9 hours you will notice a big deterioration in quality.
External (stand-alone) DVD recorders should automatically set the maximum VOB size to 1 GB as this is in the DVD standard i.e you will get 4 vob files of 1 GB each for a 4 hour recording. You should just be able to copy to hard disk using and DVD ripper software.
If your DVD recordr is simply an external PC recorder (I am not sure from your description), there should be an option in the recorder software to set the maximum filesize if it does not do this automatically.
By the way, many DVD recorders prevent copying of VHS tapes if they are macrovision protected. There are ways round this - do a search on these forum for macrovision. -

It ' s idd an external Dvd Recorder. Is it possible to record a session of 4houres,and afterwards, cut this session into 2 pieces, with my dvdrecorder? It s new so I m not very good with it right now
I have also a new question : On the tapes, there are a lot of short movies. I won t record them one by one but in one session and afterwards,I want to cut them. So it s a lil bit the same question as the first : can I cut the session afterwards in smaller sessions with my Dvd Recorder ? or otherwise maybe on my pc. It has to be noticed that the pieces are not all the same length. So there are pieces of 30 minutes,20 minutes and so on...

The only thing I found in my manual concerning scenes is in the Dvd-library section. There ,it s possible to delete scenes or something, but I don t think, that has something to do with what I want 2 do.
Anyway,I installed DVD Lab and I think with that prog,it s possible to create Scenes where-ever I want.
