editing VOB files

Video Edit Software Discuss, editing VOB files at Software forum; hey i`m new to dvd editing and we have a video camera that records onto DVDs and i wanna edit them on the pc, iz the and editing software for VOB files or a converter to convert them into MPEG2 format, can some one please help me!?

You can try TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress from this site:

It is very good and i use it to convert NTSC movies to PAL.

Hi, I am in a similar situation to mardio.

I expect I will be using Adobe Premier to edit the video, but I need to covert from the VOB file (as Adobe dones't recognise this).

Are there any alternatives to TMPGEnc 3.0?

Once they are on your hard drive, you can rename them to xxx.MP2 (or xxx.MPG) and they will work fine.

I have used DVD Decrypter and they are now on my harddrive and look like this

I have tried 'right click', 'rename' and the file is now VTS_01_1.MPG.VOB

Editing software works best with .avi and .mov files. mpg files are highly compressed files that use GOPs (group of pictures) so that you only have one frame every 1/2 second. The other 14 frames are partial frames that contain only the pixels that have changed from the previous/next frame. DV footage from a DV tape will end up being 13GB per hour. I highly recommend using an external hard drive to store ALL of your video footage.

The only way to edit your footage is to connect the camera via your firewire cable to your computer and capture the footage.

To change the file extension from vob to mpg, first go to explorer, Tools, Folder Options, View, and make sure 'hide extensions for known file types' is unclicked. Then rename the file, deleting vob and replacing it with the mpg extension (assuming your editing software recognizes mpg).

ProjectX outputs correct structure MPEG-2 muxed or demuxed.

For mpeg container files.
Editing
Subtitles
Fixes video dimension problems (can have dimension split files saved out seperate, if needed).
Free
Etc Etc.

Ok sometime since last version, but still fixes more than any others out there.

Not sure if works as well with NTSC only videos as does with pal ones. Maybe ok if leave the fps as is.

Just found these two portable and normal v0.90.400.b25 which are pre compiled.

Unshure if these two versions are most upto date. Is the videohelp.com site good at getting upto date releases quickly ? The answer is below (they are slow).

Also here this one is a newer compiled version, than one linked above v0.90.04.00.b32 (31-10-2009).
