| Converting WMV File to MPEG Format - Please Help!!! Earlier today, I downloaded MediaCoder 0.3.7 with the intent of using it to convert a WMV file to an MPEG file. My son is in a rock band and a radio station some 2700 miles away did a video interview using the .WMV format and I wanted to convert it to an MPEG file. The video is actually of the band doing an accoustic version of one of their songs. For some reason, I can't seem to get the software to convert the file. It keeps spitting out a file with 0 bytes in it. The software didn't appear to come with any instructions, although, one of the software tools under "Action" is "Show Transcoding Wizard". Unfortunately, when I try to use the Transcoding Wizard, I get an Error Message that says: "Action Cancelled Internet Explorer was unable to link to the Web Page you selected. The page might be temporarily unavailable." Arghh!!! My request is simple. If any of you have used or are using this software, do you have any idea where I can download operating instructions? Failing this, would someone be kind enough to advise me how to convert this WMV file into an MPEG file, using this software. Thanks for all and any advice and help.

| Re: Converting WMV File to MPEG Format - Please Help!!! Chef, thanks for the advice. I just installed TMPGEnc-2.524.6 but it doesn't want to convert a WMV file. Any other ideas? Thanks.

| Re: Converting WMV File to MPEG Format - Please Help!!! Try downloading the latest version TMPGenc 3.0 XPress. It's free to try for 30 days. Other than that go here http://www.videohelp.com/ and search for a tutorial on how to convert wmv files. |

| Re: Converting WMV File to MPEG Format - Please Help!!! I just checked out TMPGEnc 3.0 Xpress and unfortunately, the Trial version isn't 100% functional. The big problem is that the site says: "Limitation: All functions and options are usable excepted the Batch encode tool and the Project Open/Save options." So, it would appear that I wouldn't be able to save the MPEG file I create from the WMV file. :-( Next, I checked out http://www.videohelp.com/ but it seemed that none of the trial versions were 100% functional. For example, one I downloaded called "SmartSoft Video Converter" literally converted 70% of the file and then said that if I wanted the rest, that I'd have to buy the $29.90 version. Since I only want to convert one video of my son's band, that just isn't practical. I would sincerely appreciate any other ideas/recommendations from all or anyone. Thanks again.

| Re: Converting WMV File to MPEG Format - Please Help!!! Seems like most of the encoders have limitations on the free trial versions. Mainconcept has a trial, but puts a watermark on the video it produces. I don't think Procoder 2 is even available anymore as a trial. As a last resort, you might try this all-in-one program----SUPER. It is free, so no trial limitations. Just don't know how well it will work for you. The download is at the bottom of the page. http://www.erightsoft.com/Sn9a1.html |
