XP vs 2k! Choices; choices; always choices

Which of these two os's would you ppl recommend.
My system is only a few months old, built by me but I don't know which os would be better. My machine is a standalone, I don't very often play games. I would like to know of any real advantages/disadvantages of one os over the other. Thanx

Since some time, I installed XP on my machine (instead of 2k, I've been using that one for years). Things I like about XP, is the somewhat updated interface (though I set it to classic mode), the faster boot times, the better 3D performance and the better support for a dual monitor configuration (or should I say: less buggy).

Something that really annoys me XP, is the reduced stability compared to 2k. Although it's way better than 98 ever was, I find Windows 2000 to be more stable (I can run 2k for over a month without a single program crashing once; XP sometimes suffers from explorer crashes)...

I don't know what I will be installing next: 2k or XP... mabye Linux

as your system is only a few months old, it should fly with either os.

the biggest difference, right now, is that xp is what everything is being developed for. very little is designed with win2k in mind. of course, dee ehn is totally correct, winxp isnt near as stable as win2k. im not sure anything is, though. besides some Solaris machine (and i've managed to crash those ).

One of the annoying thing about WinXP is the Activation. I re-format my computer at least twice a year and I have to re-activate WinXP everytime (there are ways around but I don't think it is appropriate in this forum )

Cheers

I've heard of people getting a version from microsoft that doesn't need activating (as they format and install major hardware often so microsoft (AFAIK) give them a version they don't need to activate).

These versions do exsist, but they are only distributed to big companies, like Compaq, Dell etc etc..

This versions are called "Corporate version".

I format my HDD every couple of months and have no problems activating each time, So it's not that annoying as it only takes 30 seconds to do.
