Writing an ISO to a HD

How can I write a bootable CD ISO to a Hard Drive? The goal here is to be able to run an install of linux w/ out a CDrom or network connection

If I extract the ISO to a Hard Disk will it be bootable? My guess is no.. because it will look to find a filesystem and if its NTFS or NFS, RISER, etc. it will then look for either boot.ini or a boot kernel or an Init string of some sort.. is there a way I can tell it to use the the bootable CD's install kernel?

Wouldn't you also need a virtual device driver to mount the ISO?

Most standard burning software (like Nero and many others) is capable to write to an .ISO file instead of burning them onto a CD-R.
This will not work, unless you use something like VMware. Within VMware you can install Linux (or another Windows) from an ISO image.
If a floppy disk drive is present, there might be some way to do this. You should check Knoppix or Kanotix. Both are Live Distros, but also offer several install options.
