Windows XP Upgrade Advisor

General Software Discuss, Windows XP Upgrade Advisor at Software forum; I know that it has nothing to do with "CD"s but I have run into a little problem. I am working on a computer that has Windows ME ( I know it is the biggest POS OS out there ) and I have been trying to run the upgrade advisor

I know that it has nothing to do with "CD"s but I have run into a little problem. I am working on a computer that has Windows ME ( I know it is the biggest POS OS out there ) and I have been trying to run the upgrade advisor for Windows XP on it to see if there will be any hardware/software that will not be compatible with Windows XP. Everytime I run the advisor, it gets to "DVD Movie Player" and hangs. It WILL NOT go any further. I have even downloaded the version from Microsoft's site and still the same results. There are no DVD Movie Players installed on the system. If anyone has run into this situation or has any advice it will be much appreciated.

TIA

I wouldn't trust upgrade advisor at all. I had to use this program once (I worked a couple of weeks for a company that migrated from 98 to 2k) and it didn't do me any good.

Unless you are using very specific software, chances are quite slim XP won't work with the older software...

If you want to make sure, you can:
1. install XP on an other partition on your system, to see if XP works out for you (if so, remove both OS' and reinstall XP)
2. make a image (with Ghost or so) from your ME installation, format the partition with ME on it, install XP and see what happens... if it turns out to be a no-go, just place back the image you made and off you go

Thank you for your replies. I have never had any problems in the past with it, that is why I was asking. Nevertheless, they dont want the upgrade anyway. So nevermind.

To anyone that is having this problem, I was able to get around this error by upgrading to the latest version of DirectX which can be found through Microsoft's website.
