Question: Win98 to WinXP

General Software Discuss, Win98 to WinXP at Software forum; I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but i'll give it a go anyway. Just recently my father puts up these cdr's that he had saved files on from his old machine (Win98) problem is neither his XP nor mine will show anything on these discs.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but i'll give it a go anyway.

Just recently my father puts up these cdr's that he had saved files on from his old machine (Win98) problem is neither his XP nor mine will show anything on these discs. When i load the discs into my drive. Nothing shows up up. Looks like a blank disc. I then click on properties and the 'PIE' comes up all in blue as it is full. We do not have a machine running Win98 and would like to retrieve this data.

Is there any software or programs out there that will allow this.
I even tried to copy the disc to hard drive but that wont work.

    thanks

Maybe the disks are damaged. I have a W98se box and an XP box and have no trouble reading disks burned on the 98se box. How old are the disks and how were they stored, and do you know what burning program was used?

Download Isobuster and try that first, If it can see the files copy to your hard drive and burn new copy to good quality disc's.
If that does not work try dvd disaster.
If that does not work probably nothing will.
    The above software is free.
I keep important files on a cd, a dvd and a usb hard drive I know its belt and braces but if they're that important!!

Perhaps the CDs were written with software such as Roxio DirectCD or similar packet-writing software?

You might be able to save the content from such discs using IsoBuster.

Nero InCD is another packet writing program which I've found so unreliable I've stopped using it. I had data saved using InCD that suddenly showed same dsic full seen here even on the same system by which it was written. I now just create a data disc using Nero Express to burn to disc instead of InCD.
