| i was playing around on my old windows 98 computer and stupidly enabled dma for my primary cdrom drive (i have 2 internal and 1 external). obviously it was not supported because after rebooting i can no longer see any of the cdrom drives in windows explorer, and the entire "cdrom" tree has disappeared from device manager. with an error icon next to my secondary ide controller (dual fifo). how can i disable dma and bring back my cdrom drives? normally you'd uncheck dma in the driver's property box but i can no longer see the drives in device manager... please help ps. disabling dma in bios might work. but my bios is very old and i can only select PIO modes and 32-bit access (is that dma?), and haven't been able to fix the problem in the bios |

| 32 bit access was something that was used in the old days of windows 3.1, all disk access nowerdays is 32-bit. If you go into safe mode then you should be able to see your cd roms again (device manager in safe mode shows all known hardware, working or not). My adivce would be to delete the cd-roms (and probabally the secondary IDE if it will let you), restart normally ad let windows find it for itself. |
