Mozilla implementing "silent" Firefox updates.

In a move that closely resembles Google Chrome, Mozilla has decided to implement a silent update feature within their Firefox internet browser. Unlike Chrome, however, users will have the option to turn silent updating off.

Sometimes updates breaks things, either in the software being upgraded or in some other related or unrelated software.

I have seen this many times in the past, and all kinds of automatic updates are thus disabled on my own systems, so that I can control when updates are made.

Google is wrong to force updates down people's throats. They did that with the Google Toolbar, which of course broke stuff, and for that reason I stopped using the Google Toolbar.

It's risky for the Mozilla Firefox team to implement these silent updates, but at least they give people the chance to turn it off.

I always try to tell everything to notify me first before doing anything so I have control as many updates break things for me too then I have to figure it out or get rid of the update somehow.
A USB driver update hosed my Logitech mouse till I got rid of it, and I've had just new software and drivers hose other things that it should never have affected.

Better yet I turn off the notify or auto updates and do those myself and check periodically from time to time for updates or when I see a news about related updates and security problems.

I hate silent updates. That's the one thing I dislike about Chrome the silent update. When you do the update you have no idea when it's finished and if there is a problem with the update there is no info on what happened..
