have a dynamic IP address on my home PC. Can anybody recommend a free simple utility/program that will alert me via e-mail when my IP address changes?

Re: IP address change notification

I'm not aware of a freebie, but as a general rule your pooled IP Address changes when you disconnect and then reconnect. Some ISP's have a time limit that will release and renew your IP, but one free way to keep tabs is by Start> Run > CMD >Type: ipconfig /all.

he probably want to remote control his pc

imho its best to use dynamic dns for that (youll get a virtual host for example you.no-ip.com and a software that will update the virtual host to point to your ip everytime you connect to the internet, all free of course, anyway and then you just use the virtual host in any software you wanna connect to your home pc with ) i recommend these dynamic dns providers: microtech, myserver, static, no-ip

but if you still want a software that will email alert you i recommend barefoot ip monitor , its not free but theres a 30day trial http://www.barefootinc.com/ipmonitor.htm

http://www.dyndns.com/services/ is another free service

is your ISP dynamic - or is your router doing some funky DHCP on you - depending upon where you live and the type of service (Cable / DSL / Dialup) - you may just be getting the same assigned address over and over from the ISP...the /release and /renew leases vary in length

Re: IP address change notification

the ip goes for 100 up and 100 down from the one you started with if you want to remote connect just write down are list of the ip's you get and over time {say one or two days} you should see what the next ip is going to be and then just config to connect to that ip.

You can also try IP Change Notifier.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ipchangenotify/

It will notify you via email when your publicly-visible IP changes. It runs as a Windows Service.

Just a friendly reminder this was post in 2009. And the OP most likely has changed and or found a better way already.....

Re: IP address change notification

IPnote has worked pretty well for me and it seems there's also a web-based management version.

It isn't free but it's pretty affordable at $7.95 for a single user license and there's a 15 day trial:
ipnote Website

cheers!
