| OK, I am unsure of what to call them, but sometimes when you save a website to your favorite places or bookmark it however, rather than the generic "e" in IE for example, you get a small picture of an icon to represent that website. Digitalblasphemy for example assigns a "DB" in orange color. Well, anyhow, these icons sometimes disappear until I go to that website and resave it as a favorite and then I have 2 of the same favorites, BOTH with the designed icons. Then I must delete one. Why does this happen, and how can I prevent them from disappearing, if there is such a way?

| They dissapear when you clean temporary internet files. Didn't get that about more than one though, I have 7 sites with their own favicon in my bookmarks. Stay away from cleaning your temporary files if you want to keep them

| Yep, you are right, I just checked and experiemnted. Darn, this sux, because every now and then I do clear my temp files. maybe if I cleared them, then visited each site whose Icon I want to remain, and then make all those hidden files it may avoid them being cleared again?

| you could probably do a search for .ico files, or whatever the extension is, and protect them from your next cleansing.

| Already thought of that. Apparently, the temporary folder is read only and refuses to accept my changing it so. I tried to copy the files elsewhere, to back them up, so they can easily be thrown back into that folder without having to re-visit every site, but no such luck. They get auto renamed and changed in the process. Further, I can't throw anything into the Temporary folder because it won't allow since its read only. Even when logged in as Admin.

| If you save the site again to your favorites and overwrite the previous entry it should restore the web site icon. Go to your temporary internet files folders and sort them by date. The most recent entry should contain an icon file called favicon[1].ico or something similar. Start a new folder on your hard drive called "Icons". Copy the favicon[1].ico file to the "Icons" folder and rename it to something that refers to the web site. Go to the web site favorite entry and select Properties | Change Icon and browse to the "Icons" folder and select the icon that you copied to that location. This will make a "sticky" web site icon, and you can delete your temporary files any time you wish without losing the icons. |
