How to create bootable ghost DVD?

I remember when my family bought a Compaq computer back in 1999 it came with a rescue CD. Essentially a fully automatic Ghost backup.
Now it am trying to create such a disc but of course I could not fit all my useful programs on 1 CD, I need it on 1 DVD. However I have not found any way to create a bootable DVD with the ability to restore my ghost image.

I have no DVD-writer in my computer so I cannot select DVD-writer as a target when doing the backup. I dont know if selecting DVD-writer would mean the program (norton ghost) would add booting information but I doubt it. Anyway I cannot use that option. I need to write to a file on my D: partition which I will later transfer and burn on another PC.

I also do not want to use diskettes to boot as diskettes break and get lost by themselves.
So how would I go about to create a bootable and (almost) automatic recovery DVD? If Compaq could do it in 1999 surely I would be able to do it also.

Re: How to create bootable ghost DVD?

Take a look at a simple tutorial how to create a bootable cd/dvd in Nero.
All you need is Google.

No I also need a program to restore my computer. DOS programs and NTFS tend to be a hard combo. Besides I want the program to do it for me.

I have given up ghost images anyway.

Bootable floppy image + Ghost.exe (for DOS) including required files?
Worked for me even on NTFS if I'm not mistaken.

Works with a wide range of hard drives and removable media, including CDR/RW and DVD+-R/RW drives, USB and FireWire® (IEEE 1394) devices, and Iomega® Zip® and Jaz® drives.

I don't know if its only the latest version 9 that can do this but a quick Google search results in claim that it can

Also Womble might know because of his tutorial:

I would send him a PM.

Not really clear what you mean here.

Anyway, the latest Norton Ghost 9.0 is an excellent tool.
Also these 2 might come in handy > EasyBoot 5.02 &
Acronis True Image 8.0

I've a lot of bad things about Acronis True Image, mostly about being buggy and not able to do what it's supposed to do.

I’ve been using Acronis True Image for some time (V.6-V.7), and it have never let me down. When it comes to Powerquest Drive Image it’s a total different story, it was very unreliable when creating an image directly to the burner.

I do not want to add a DVD-RW drive to the computer just so I could select this option. I want it to write to a file AND add booting information, which it doesnt do.

I have no real use of ghost images. So I've thrown it in the bin.

Re: How to create bootable ghost DVD?

Hmm I did this some years ago with Ghost 5 or so.. if I remember correctly, I made a batch file that restored the ghost image in RAW mode to the first partition of the harddisk. I guess that "ghost /?" or so will list all the command line options which make this possible. Modern Ghost versions have NTFS support btw, and NTFS under dos works as well

Re: How to create bootable ghost DVD?

I use Norton SystemWorks 2003's ghost to create an image to my D-drive, don't see why you could not create a split image of 640Mb each and burn these to 2 or 3 bootable Cd's. Or burn a complete image to one DVD and create a boot floppy with ghost on it.

Since all you're doing is making a post here so you can View attachments .
Why the "plz" .
The thread is from 2004 or 10 years old.
In 2004 Norton Ghost 2003 would have been what to use.
Windows XP was the latest Windows OS & only out a little over a year.
