a) some of it is a complete waste of time
b) sometimes there are other or better alternatives

i have a serious spyware problem.....i dont know why my pc is a virus magnet!!
lets just say the antivirus my pc came with doesnt work...so when i have a spyware or viruses i have to take it to the computer store for cleaning which is very expensive... i've tried several free antivirus programs but they arent of much help...Some of them cant find the spywares even when i'm using complete scan...it just say scan complete and no treat was found....the others only detects the spyware and viruses but it doesnt remove them because its a trial version...dont really have the funds to buy it....so right now i have 278 spywares and viruses and they're at high risks.

my pc is very slow as you might imagine.

So if anyone can help me urgently, plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz do!!!!!

If I were you I would go here http://free.grisoft.com/ and get the free version of AVG Anti-Virus. For your spyware problems, I would go here http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php and would download Ad-Aware 2007 Free. From my experience, these are the two best FREE programs available for your problems. Both stay up to date on virus and spyware definitions. AVG's Anti-Virus is pretty much the same as it's consumer version and Ad-Aware is the same, but doesn't provide real-time protection, but who cares, it's free and you can scan and delete spyware which is what you need to do.

found Trojan FakeAlert in IE7PRO
wasn`t running on computer but in backup folder.

Bitdef nor AVG detected it

my Son has it on his XP rig cleaned up there too

this trojan is also called SmithFraud

it's your way you use your computer.
Some basic rules:
- do not use an account with administrative permissions for normal work, surfing etc.
- use different internet browsers like Opera or Firefox. Same applies to the Mail application
- make sure your operating system and applications have the most recent security updates.
- use only software from reliable sources
