Question: Digital audio to analog

Can I connect a A/V receiver (analog inputs only) to the digital audio output of a tv and get decent sound from the receiver? It is an older receiver and doesn't have any digital inputs.

You can connect your TV's Digital output to a an external DAC and then connect the analogue output to a your receiver, but why are you going into all that trouble? Most new TV's have analogue outputs.

Thanks for the reply. Several of the HDTV's I am looking at don't have analog audio outputs, only digital and optical.

Then you will need go get a DAC if you want to connect it to your amplifier.
