| Your welcome SJ . I know you probably always do but give the Read Me & through read. This will help you do the same read on different drives & even use different computers & their drives. That's the real trick that makes it work . Drive A may be able to read part of a scratched disc better than drive B does & vice versa . The read from either drive is written to the same .iso file . Only the parts marked good in the .flg file are written to the .iso . I have used up to three drives for a problem disc.

| For massive renaming, I mainly use these 2: 1 - http://www.fastfilerenamer.com/ Great for quick and simple tasks, nice GUI. 2 - http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php Not so pretty, but great for tricky and advanced renaming. |

| Thanks for these tips. The AusLogics Disk Defrag has behaved pretty great over a variety of platforms in these past few days - I've been loading this on quite a few computers after getting Start-Up times and Big-File Save Times measured using the Win Disk Defrag vs the AusLogics. Even the simple AusL Defrag offers time-gains, and the full Defrag & Optimize option saves 10-15% time from the Win standard utils' results. Also, thanks for the WinDirStat. I still prefer the all-in-one ZTree offering over everything - I can't believe "Size Of Folder" is too much for a Microsoft computer administrator to demand. Something tells me THEY administer far more Win machines than anyone else, and yet apparently can't get their programmers to deliver all useful facts onto their simplest file-managers. That must be frustrating! I'm still conflicted over NInite because I don't have positive feelings about Seeking-All-Drivers utilities. There's a bit of a "phone home/ransomware" edge to them which makes me wary. These SHOUJLD be common and incredibly useful tools - Windows Updates does some of this adequately, although I've learned never to allow WinUpdates to install their stripped-down version of Video Drivers, but to 'go to the Source' for the real update. And I'm unhappy with loading yet another scheduler/scheduled-event onto everyone's computer. Still, having an "alert - an update exists" should be safe. As long as there are criminals who want to install ransomwares, though, I am still wary. |

| Mr B, apologies for letting on that I was questioning NInite - no, only the history of websites that have installed their own updating systems onto PCs with the promise (threat?) of updating "everything" in a one-stop shopping manner. I keep seeing "endless schedulers" installed in nightmares, and I've found most of those turn-off-services switches thru MSConfig, Component Services and even the handy right-clicks on Java and Flash-y sites. One thing I've seen of late - AusLogic was a good example of it. During the Install, it has two checkboxes (pre-checked) to install their toolbar and then put Ask as a preferred search engine. I unchecked them, and AusLogic figuratively shrugged and went on to instal nicely. I like having that choice, and I understand freebie util companies trying to pay their bills by inserting someone else's 'stuff' onto my PC. But I far more greatly enjoy those freebie-vendors letting me skip that during the Install than going back and uinstalling just the junk. I'll check out NInite once we're back home and I have ample boxes that I can test. |

| I'm going to have to spend some time looking at the thread H3rB3i postedin #32. I also use a software shutdown software called EndItAll for those times a program freezes & refuses to close. It works most of the time.

| BlueTooth Proximity Lock. Use any bluetooth device (like your mobiel phone) to automatically lock your computer when you are away from it.

| Windows System Control Center: WSCC is a free, portable program that allows you to install, update, execute and organize the utilities from various system utility suites. WSCC can install and update the supported utilities automatically. Alternatively, WSCC can use the http protocol to download and run the programs. WSCC is portable, installation is not required. Extract the content of the downloaded zip archive to any directory on your computer. This edition of WSCC supports the following utility suites: Windows Sysinternals Suite (including support for Sysinternals Live service); NirSoft Utilities: The setup packages are downloaded from the author's website! Windows Defender Offline: It's like having MS Security Essentials on a cd. Just download it, execute it, have it find the latest virus definitions and burn it all on a nice cd. Then use that cd to boot the virus infeceted system and have it can everything.
