CD Burner emulator needed

I am looking for software that will emulate a CD-R drive, and create a direct cd image when an application burns from it. Let me explain my situation. With Windows Media Player 10 and Microsoft's music store, I purchase music in wma format which is protected. To get the files bought from Windows music store onto my iPod, I have to go through the procedure of burning purchased tracks onto a CD, then ripping the CD. This is a big pain in the butt, and wastes a lot of CDs. I would like software or a driver that I can burn to an image on my hard drive. I have software already that allows an image to be treated like a CD drive, so I can rip from an image if I have an image.

Anyone know of such software?

Welcome to the forum, cmelnick!

Can't you use at least a CD-rewritable?

Yes, I can and sometimes do use RWs, but it is still annoying and a lot slower than "burning" directly to the hard drive would be. When you purchase a lot of music, the time it takes compounds...

Good idea... Nero Image Recorder plus a program that can handle .nrg files, like Isobuster or UltraISO.

Regards, ET

Um....Nero image drive also handles nero's native ".nrg" files & Emulates a cd drive with cd image in it

Re: CD Burner emulator needed

Oh sorry, I confused the image recorder with Image drive...

I do not use Image Drive, but it should be like Daemon-Tools, right? My idea was just that in this way (or with Daemon-Tools) you see the image as an audio CD in the virtual drive, so you have to "rip" the files again... but actually there is no big difference between the various methods (extracting WAVs from the image or rip from a virtual drive).

Cheers, ET
