G'Day Folks, Seems that I have a problem with the "AutoRun feature or the AutoPlay feature does not work when you insert a CD-ROM in the drive" after Installing the latest Trial version of nero v7.2.0.3b I have checked all registry settings as per KB330135 and applied a few manual changes to try and fix this problem to no avail. The AutoPlay 1 - "Music CD" and the AutoPlay 2 - "Blank CD" seem to have a corrupt file indicator or association to the required software, which may or is most likely the cause of the problem. Look at the corrupt 2 lines, 1st line - "IIIIIIx" (garbage)" 2nd line - "using <need provider>" 1 - "Music CD" image of the window showing corruption; and 2 - "Blank CD" image of the window showing corruption; Look at Document Images If anyone can help to tell me where the Registry entry is to fix this, I would appreciate the help. (have looked but cannot find the specific entries) I have tried the "fixautorun-xp.reg" which only did automatically what I had done manually, and the "AutoFix.exe" from MS - did not do anything other than tell me that there was a problem which it could not fix. Also tried "Autoplay Repair v2.0.2" which did not allow changing these entries. Still, these tools may come in handy at other times.

I'm not sure that is related with your problem, but try to check in gpedit.msc On start button select "run" and type gpedit.msc On the windows, search both in computer configuration and in user configuration the following path: \administrative templates\system\turn off autoplay Set it as disabled to allows autorun. My suggestion, however, is to set this option as "Enabled". Remember to set this parameter in the same way both in computer configuration and in user configuration: Setting it only in one could give problems.

Hello geno888 0- Thanks for reply. The "gpedit.msc" (group policies - edit) "\administrative templates\system\turn off autoplay" had 2 entries both set to "Not Configured" 1st was \Computer Configuration\\administrative templates\system\turn off autoplay and the 2nd was \User Configuration\\administrative templates\system\turn off autoplay I changed both to "Disable" and rebooted, then tried to load a CD = Failed and the system behaviour was worse and froze up - had to power of at the switch. I did NOT quote, "set this option as "Enabled" as I do not have an issue with CD's or DVD's being able to Autorun. This option came about, I think, because most users failed to change the boot sequence in the CMOS setup from 1st - CD, 2nd - HDD, etc. As mine is set to boot 1st - FloppyDisk and or USB (floppy or memstick) 2nd - HDD, 3rd CD (any of 2 CD/DVD) 4th - any other device, I do not have that problem. Anyway, thanks for your help, it was worth a try. Anyone reading this, should be reminded that editing the "Group Policies" is for Experienced users ONLY and do not recommend that Advanced or Novice Users change anything in group policies.

Hi toaddub - thanks for reply. The task of "kill the Explorer.exe process in Task Manager and restart it so the registry can be reloaded." after changing the registry entries, is the same as re-booting after making registry changes (I think) which I do as a matter of any Software installation or system change in order to re-initialise the system. Whichever, that did not have any effect on the CD autoplay loading. I will wait to see if anyone else comes up with a quick fix for this problem before I un-install the re-install the Nero v7.2.0.3b - yes I will use the nero cleaner tool before I re-install. will keep you posted on result.

Thanks "petremure" Power Toys - TweakUI v2.10 not the answer, only has options to enable or disable AutoPlay for CD\DVD and removable drives and is not the tweak that will do anything for this problem.

| Hi, I was having the same issue but mine was regarding blindwrite. I was able to remove the <need provider> issue but I do not have anything regarding the squares anyway I found the registry entry in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandlers\Eve ntHandlers] Just look for the entries one by one. | Hello elitesonny, Can you please explain further (be more specific) as the content of all subkeys under \EventHandlers e.g "AutorunINFLegacyArivals\MSOpenFolder" contain NO Data Values, which makes it hard to determine what to ad or change. Quote:

Hi Folks, After some extensive re-testing and 14 or so un-installs and re-installs on 3 systems to test and find the cause of this problem, we found that the IN-CD in this version of Nero 7.2.7.0 = IN-CD v5.1.0.15 - is the cause of the problem on this Windows XP sp2 Systems. I successfully Installed Nero 7.2.7.0 on 2 other Work Stations used for testing Software and Hardware compatibilities, W2Ksp4 and on a WXPsp2, and had no problems during the installations. I do not recall that previous versions of Nero i.e v7.0.8.2 gave me this problem ! So what is it in IN-CD that de-activates the auto play and prevents the system from mapping the inserted CD's ?? The CD's (CD-RW and DVD-RW) function correctly, and if I leave them in the tray when I need to re-start, the CD's can be read and will perform the installation from the CD"s OK, so who has the brain to solve this one please ?

1st - Thanks geno888 for reply. Although over time IN-CD has it's problems, a lot of them are a mixture of OS's and Hardware compatibility related, I think. 2nd - Thanks for suggestion DaChew. I will take it on board - would however not go so far as to say that it is a "Nobrainer" It's not only XP, IN-CD has had problems way back to Win 9x. Warning - v4.x.x.x is causing problems on Win98 - http://www.pcbugfixer.com/news/#nero The issue I think has always hung around the VXD and Hardware compatibility area. I note that Nero has a Hardware compatibility list. Problem is that I can never find it the second time on the Nero site otherwise I would include a link. I previously said that I had successfully installed Nero v7.2.7.0 on a Win2K (tong in cheek) the IN-CD caused power problems in that the system no longer shutdown nor Re-booted (Restart) correctly. The remainder of the software otherwise works OK (after testing) Nero 7.2.7.0 and IN-CD v5.1.0.15 work fine on all but one of the Systems, on this I temporally put Nero v7.0.8.2 with IN-CD v5.1.0.0. With previous trouble shooting we were able to load IN-CD separately and therefore tested to find the differences and which version stopped working on the troubled system. So can some one please tell me how to extract or give me links to the IN-CD's versions v5.1.0.1 / v5.1.0.5 / and v5.1.0.7 to install separately with Nero 7.2.7.0 - would be interesting to see which stops being compatible on this system.

Microsoft has a free utility for Win XP that repairs corrupted Autorun and Autoplay settings and resets them to the default state. Download Autofix.exe form this link http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en or Google for Autofix.exe (or zip) download. It worked great for me when I had problems similar to the ones reported here. It restores autorun and autoplay for the CD/DVD drives. Once you have repaired the Autorun stuff you can use TweakUI etc. to modify them again, turn the off or what have you.

Hello Kraxel, and thanks for input ! We tried that and it does not do all that it boasts to do, i.e. Autofix.exe ! I wrote to Nero and asked for help on this issue = The reply was no more than "Lip Service" had no fix and in reply to asking for separate InCD installers to test them, they said ; "I am sorry to have to inform you that we do not sell Nero InCD as stand alone product. It is part of our full Nero 7 version. The standard installation of Nero 7 does not automatically install InCD. Follow the step below to install InCD: In Nero StartSmart select >Nero Tool Kit >Nero ProductSetup >Modify your Nero Products Go through the "Nero Installation Wizard", the application InCD can now be installed by a right-click on the InCD option. Should you wish more information, do not hesitate to contact us. Regards Andrea Kotsch Nero Sales How this ended up in Sales, from an original Tech Support request - I do not venture to guess. Mind you, I did explain that I had dealt with Nero software since version 3.x and that I was a reseller of their products, and that I was a Techie wanting to conduct tests with InCD! So much for getting help from Nero - then again i should have known better, "Then to ask in the first place!" as I have never gotten a reasonable full reply to anything I have asked them as it seems they only read the first question and shoot from the hips leaving the other questions one asks, un-answered and in the dark !! Anyhow, have a nice day folks.
