| I stumbledupon that site a month or so ago, I really don't think it's the best "ever" freeware programs, but a decent list.

| Dude has August 23, 2003 on a bunch of posts. Should be 2005. Should we trust someone who makes obvious typo mistakes like that? (wink) Dude misses some apps too. Rename Master is by far the best free file renamer: http://www.joejoesoft.com/rm.php Bit Spirit is one of the best Torrent apps out there, especially for ADSL users thanks to the Anti-Freeze option. Lame that you have to sign up to get the rest of the 47-?? too. |
| ...hmmmm did a "Find" in the page for SCOT and SCOTTY - nada...zippo oh well - you likely work for the site - ...besides Regshot is the best free Reg comparer...though not sure if XP compatable, certainly works through win2K - and MikeLins StartupMonitor works wonders too btw - whas up BK |

Instead of having to compare registry snapshots, Winpatrol constantly monitors registry changes and brings up a "Yes/No" windows when a program is trying to change it. Seems less cumbersome than comparing snapshots. For the new torrent user, Azureus is easier to set up, although it is a resource hog. And can really slow things down if you change settings without exactly knowing what to do-but for initial setup, it is very easy. |
| thanks for clarifying - however, I'd have to try it ...I can imagine it being both a resource hog (perhaps not) - but even more-so, a PITA, like a software firewall, constantly annoying me unless I can tell it to ignore certain specific apps/dlls. Win Reg changes occur often, especially when considering/involving ACPI and Power Mgmt settings and changes, due to standby/hibernation mode, etc. I see it being a very useful tool - if those 2 major possible issues I may have, are not a reality. Regshot however enables you to see EXACTLY what was changed during the Reboot phase of a typical software Install - this way, not only do you see what was changed/overwritten by that App - but also when an uninstall doesn't go correctly, you have a record of all the changes. I'd hate to have to keep answering Yes or No during the Reboot phase |
