if your system can play back 3gp files, you can (try to) use a basic avisynth script to open it. (must have avisynth properly installed with virtual dub).

open a new document with notepad and type the following, but use the path and name of your video file. Save it as a .avs file, then open it in virtual dub.

Code:
DirectShowSource("path\filename.extension")
example:

DirectShowSource("E:\videos\myvideo.3gp")

As for what you will be able to do with the video, I am not sure... I don't have much experience with avisynth or 3gp files. I just came across the script one day and thought it might be useful, so I wrote it down.

Already tried directshow and failed. Unrecognised format. Also tried to rename .3gp to .avi and .mov as well.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Get a 3gp parser such as Haali's and compatible playback filter(s) such as ffdshow.
