Strange characters in posts/threads?

Community Talk & Bug Reports Discuss, Strange characters in posts/threads? at CDFreaks / MyCE forum; After CDF came up from all the downtime today, I've been noticing odd characters all over the place (and I don't mean the members )...can't provide an example, but if you look in Blank Media at some of the thread titles, you'll see what I mean. Anyone else seeing this?

An example is Sen's name....
The character set is not correctly implemented I'd say...

The whole site is still work in progress. Not everything is configured the way it has to be. And I think some servers will still be added too.

The character set issue already came up when the forum server was changed some time ago. It should be easy to fix it again.

That's true as the forum no longer recognises "Sen" as my username when logging on!

On the other hand, I can log on by copying & pasting my weird username from a post into the logon field. So for anyone else who has unusual characters in their nickname, this trick should work assuming they have at least one post made where they can copy their username from.

I think I fixed it Sen. At least it appears correctly in the forum. See if you can log on again.

My characters are broken as well and I still need to login with those weird characters. So, I am afraid it isn't fixed yet.

Yea, noticed the same problem here. Just tell your browser to use Unicode as the character set instead of Western European until it's fixed on the server.

It didn't help
To finished simply click the “OK” button to exit the windows. You will now need to check your “Secondary IDE Channel”.

Still getting some weird ones, they have appeared in my own posts where before they were normal and some of the read firsts are showing funny, for example these in the media forum (not links):
CDFreaks’ “first look” at Traxdata DVD-R DL
CDFreaks’ “first look” at Labelflash™

Though the ones above the Traxdata one are normal looking.

I'm still seeing those also ...but you can get a general idea of what the threads are about, thank God

Um, it's quite simple, as pointed out...

Your server's response headers:
Code:
Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1
In addition, this is in the headers of each generated page:
HTML Code:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" />
Telling the browser that your character set is ISO-8859-1 when all your special characters are apparently encoded as UTF-8 is problematic. Change the ISO-8859-1 to UTF-8 should fix the problem.

It would also help if the use of non-ASCII characters (like the fancy curly quotes and apostrophes ) is kept to an absolute minimum. Many people avoid the sort of fancy double and single quotes that MS Word is so fond of because they are non-ASCII and can often wreak character encoding havoc and create incompatibilities with some older and text-based applications.

Changed the supplied charset from ISO-8859-1 to UTF-8. This should fix most of the character. But it will probably lead to some posts being displayed incorrectly that were made during the last week.

Hi Liggy

I hope that this is the right place to post. In italian forum there are many incorrect characters. I'm referring to accented vowels, like "è".

While I'm writing this post, I find that the accented vowel "a" is automatically converted in "ê".

And this problem is also in posts oldest than a week
This is only an example

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...35&postcount=7

(see the word "velocitê". Sorry I can't show you the correct word because the right letter is automatically subsituted with the wrong one)

Hmmmm. The forum and the database are both set to UTF-8.
Found something...
Testing:
áéíóúàèìòùâêîôû
Looks better now (at least here)
That was the solution
