I'm running IE6 and get that sometimes too. Clicking OK just gets the standard 404 page, but then refresh will usually get me the right page.

Is there any particular thread or index this error appears more often on?

This error is Internet Explorer 6 & 7 specific (try a Google on "Operation aborted"), so a workaround in the meantime is to upgrade your browser to Internet Explorer 8 or use an alternative (e.g. Firefox, Chrome, etc.) IE8 handles the error silently and does not force a "Page cannot be displayed" error to appear from what I can tell.

So far I have not had an issue opening any page here over the past few days, but then again I'm using Firefox here.

Edit:

After coming across a website showing how to trigger this error with a bit of Javascript, I created a test page and tried a handful of browsers to see what happens.

In Internet Explorer 7, it will display the page up to the problem code with a box saying "Operation Aborted". As soon as I click 'OK', it gets rid of the page and displays an error as if there is no internet connection:

Name: IE7_OA_Error.png
Views: 60
Size: 22.9 KB

In Internet Explorer 8, it will display the page up to the problem code, but nothing after it. Interestingly, it will also show the title of the last website visited, in this case MSN. No warning message appears, however, a warning icon shows up in the status bar at the bottom.

Name: IE8_OA_Error.png
Views: 57
Size: 18.6 KB

In every other browser I tried (Opera, Safari, Chrome and Firefox), the full page appears and there is no sign of any problem. The following is an example in Firefox 3.5 Preview:

Name: Firefox_OA_Test.png
Views: 56
Size: 21.7 KB

I should use Firefox more often.
There is no specific page that I get this error. Just browsing from page to page. I'll disable some of my add-ons and try.
