| Crucial Ballistix Tactical 8GB @ 1.6v Hello there, The casino was good to me on Friday night. so I got some Crucial Ballistix Tatical DDR3 1866mhz RAM 2X4GB for $40usd, I picked up two sets from Fry's http://www.frys.com/product/7147542?site=sa dpages page:Sun_p33Well I go and install it an Saturday and BIG BSOD! Crud! I messed with it for a bit and still one big pain in the "A" BSOD. I ran memtest for an hour and it came up with a lot of errors. So I took them back and exchanged them. I ran the new ones through memtest for 3 hours each stick at work today on HP DC8200E desktops and no errors. So I get home and install them and BSOD time all over again. These are 1.5v RAM so I start doing a little research and some people are reporting turning the voltage up. First I went to 1.55v and system was ok for a bit and then BSOD. I cranked up the voltage to 1.6 and so far all is good (Knocking on wood). I ran memtest for over an hour, no errors. Played Bioshock for about an hour and still good. I am going to run memtest overnight and see how it is in the morning. A question I have, is running 1.5v RAM @ 1.6v going to harm my RAM or damage anything else? What is a good new FPS to play? I loved Bioshock and Crysis 1 & 2 are a lot of fun. but its time for a new game. Thanks,

| You should be fine at 1.6V! It may have to do with your subtimmings and if you relax some of them it may make it stable at a lower voltage. I also like those FPS games and I recently got Tom Clancy Ghost Recon Future Soldier its good. Also the game RAGE is pretty good. |

| I ran memtest over night and woke up with only one error in 6 hours. I ran Prime95 for 20 minutes this morning and no errors. So I up the voltage a little to 1.625 and ran memtest while I was at work. I come home 10 hours later and there are still just one error. Should I up the voltage to 1.65? Should I worry about this one error that takes memtest over 3 hours to find?

| This has been driving me a little buggy! The memtest error, just one after 3 hours, is this ok? After I am done downloading the new Max game, I am going to try a little timings thing I have been reading about. Stock on this stuff is 9-9-9-27. Some of the reviews say to have it at 8-8-8-24 @ 1.5v worth a shot.

| Yeah you can't have any errors. Did you update the BIOS for your MB? because that sometimes solves memory problems. Lowering the timmings will cause more errors, you would have to raise some of the timmings to make it more stable. You might want to RMA or return the memory. Maybe you just got a bad batch. But I would first update your MB BIOS and give another try. |

| I just turned it up to 8-8-8-24 @1.6v. Over 1/2 the reviews I have read said this is the perfect timing for this RAM. I have had Prime 95 going now for over an hour and I am @ a temp of 56c and grinding with no errors. I have to wax the wifes car today (she found out I got computer junk) I am going to run memtest while I am doing that. I am on the newest F-13 BIOS for my MB I don't think the RAM it self is bad. I did run memtest at work on each stick for over 3 hours each on a HP DC8200 with no errors. Think it's a voltage settings thing.

| I consider memory modules that need a higher voltage than specified by JEDEC as defective. Contact your vendor and demand a replacement. Michael |

| Well the memory is good. I went to wax the car and pulled two sticks out and installed them in the thing. The thing booted right up with them in and had been running memtest for over two hours with no errors. The two in my PC had one error at the same time. I changed sticks and same thing. The thing has no errors while my pc still comes up with one. So it my MB does not like this stuff. I will see if Gigabyte will do an RMA on my board. Now here is the weird part I am running XMP 1866 @ stock timings 9-9-9-27 @1.5v right now.

| OK WHO HAS BEED PUTTING CRACK IN MY COFFEE I run memtest @ 8-8-8-24 1.6v and get errors. so I pull two sticks and run memtest again still errors, I reset the timings to 9-9-9-27 stock. While I was running memtest on my pc I put the other two sticks in my other PC and ran them through memtest. I was waxing my car so after an hour I came back and checked my pc had errors and the other did not. I swapped the sticks and ran it again. my pc had errors and the other did not. So crap on a stick! I need to see if Gigabyte will RMA my board 3 year warranty. So I was going to put my Corsair back in I clear the CMOS and crap let's see what happens. I set the basics up in the BIOS and left the voltage @ 1.5v set XMP to auto and the PC booted right up. Ran Prime 95 for an hour and no errors. WTF ? Now I have all 4 sticks in @ 1.5v. When I put these in on Monday my PC would not even boot unless I had it @ 1.55v and then it was not stable till I set it to 1.6v. I will run memtest later see if I can play bioshock2 now.

| Well I played Bioshock for over two hours and no problems. So I put two sticks in the thin and left two in my PC and ran memtest over night. My PC had errors and the thing did not. Bottom line my motherboard does not like this RAM. I have the Corsair back in and I am doing the same test on them while I am at work. I have the Crucial her at work and will run memtest for the 9 hours I am here at work. Looks like I am going to have to RMA my board! How is Gigabyte with RMA on 1 year old product?

| Are these memory modules 100% JEDEC compliant, and is your motherboard designed to handle this kind of memory modules? If both questions can be answered with "Yes", then you can complain about your motherboard. But it does not hurt to ask the support people of your motherboard manufacturer for advice. Michael |

| Yes, I am 99% sure it's the board not liking this stuff. The memory is now at friends house and no errors for over 5 hours. I have my Corsair back in now and it's fine. Ran memtest all day while at work on the Corsair with no errors. Guess I will either have to get a new board or deal with the oversized heat spreaders.

| Your boards not bad. For whatever reason its not setting something right, most likely some sub-timmings or something. Either use the RAM in another machine or return it. I'm sure if the MB maufacturer got their hands on some of that RAM they could release a new FW to get things straight, but their probably not going to do that for you. |

The RAM is good My nice Gigabyte board is good The two together just don't like each other... Crucial tech support is contacting me to try to get it worked out, I have not received a reply from Gigabyte! I still have a week to get it working or take back the RAM to Fry's for a refund. The other thing I could do is get me a new board (Z77) and then upgrade the boys PC....
