RCA DVD player battery recall due to safety hazard

Don't know how many out there are affected by this, but it seems prudent to pass this along!

Carmel (Star report, AP) -- The Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Thomson Inc., announced Wednesday the voluntary recall of 47,000 digital video disc player batteries.

The battery can overheat and explode while recharging, posing a burn and fire hazard to consumers. Thomson received 11 reports of batteries overheating, resulting in two injuries from picking up the hot batteries, and five reports of batteries exploding.

The recalled batteries bear model number DRC600N and are used with RCA portable DVD players.

Although the DVD player is safe and can still be used with the AC adapter, the batteries are not. If you are an owner of one of these, you may want to give the folks at RCA a jingle here for a free replacement battery: (800) 821-5875. Or you can also pursue the situation on the RCA recall website.
