Panasonic DMREX75EB - Incompatable Television System

Getting message "Incompatable Television System" on TV after inserting certain pre-recorded DVD's. Any ideas what it means and how to resolve?

Re: Panasonic DMREX75EB - Incompatable Television System

Panasonic DMREX75EB is this a UK model? I would have something to do with NTSC V PAL: PAL tapes in a NTSC player or NTSC tapes in a PAL player. If yours is a UK model go chance it is preset for PAL and the tape you tried is NTSC.

Re: Panasonic DMREX75EB - Incompatable Television System

Thanks CCRomeo

It is a UK model. The Pre-recorded DVD is marked NTSC but was bought in the UK. The player is supposed to be Multi-region. Does multi-region mean that it should play both PAL and NTSC?

NO multi-region just means it can play DVD from other regions (a form of DVD protection)

Region Countries
0 No Region Coding
1 United States of America, Canada
2 Europe, including France, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Arabia, Japan and South Africa
3 Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Borneo and Indonesia
4 Australia and New Zealand, Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America
5 India, Africa, Russia and former USSR countries
6 Peoples Republic of China
7 Unused
8 Airlines/Cruise Ships
9 Expansion (often used as region free)

PAL v NTSC is a whole different problem (how the video is displayed on your TV)

http://www.vidpro.org/standards.htm

Some players can play both and some TVs can view both.

This is not my strongest area as I live in the USA and have no real experence with SCART, PAL, and UK TV systems.

They don't make these operating manuals easy to read.

For sure

sorry I edited you post in error

Re: Panasonic DMREX75EB - Incompatable Television System

Just to add to this thread I also have this week tried to play my first NTSC DVD on my UK spec Panasonic DMR-EX75EB-S without success. The DVD is a region free, NTSC format (as that is all this DVD comes as) officially UK sold. The Disk works perfect in every other DVD player in the house including my older DMR-E30 DVD recorder, but will not run in my DMR-EX75EB. For info, my TV is a Multi-Standard PAL/NTSC JVC LCD.

My Panasonic owners booklet clearly reads that if I select the PAL TV system then any NTSC recorded DVD's will playback in PAL60 .............. but they simply do not. I found that if I use the menu functions and change the complete DVD player to the NTSC system then it does finally playback my NTSC DVD disk (as luckly I have an NTSC compatable TV) but going through the menu functions is horrible to make this work each time then have to return everything back to the PAL system.

Then I found this excellent forum and this thread. MY Panasonic owners booklet does NOT mention the excellent information given above by CCRomeo about using the TRAY-OPEN + STOP button for 5 seconds to change the system from NTSC vs PAL............. an excellent workaround. Just a shame the DMR-EX75EB does not do it automatically as it claims to. I love Panasonic but silly things like this just should not happen.

Does anyone know how to automatically make the DMR-EX75EB do what it says in the owners booklet ?

I only joined tonight and it is an excellent site everyone.

Re: Panasonic DMREX75EB - Incompatable Television System

UPDATE

More searching has found the reason for my problem above. IT WAS BECAUSE THE TIMER RECORD MODE WAS SET. It has turned out that the DMR-EX75EB (and the 85EB) both LOCK the TV system into the mode as set-up in the menus when the timer record is selected. In my case the recorder is set-up as PAL, so when the timer record mode is set to 'on' you can only playback PAL DVD unless you change the TV system.

I simply turned off the timer record and now the NTSC DVD plays back automatically every time. Hope this helps others.

Re: Panasonic DMREX75EB - Incompatable Television System

Just wanted to say that I had exactly the same problem but thanks to the expertise on this forum (thank you Steve_G) my problem was solved before my three year old destroyed the house. Why manufacturers can't produce decent user manuals, or arrange for accurate error messaging to be displayed is a mystery. "Incompatible television system" is true but totally unhelpful. Whereas if it said "Television system locked due to timer recording mode set" you'd have a fighting chance.
Hey ho
