LVW-1105HC, Edit unfinalized DVD

I recorded home video through my Canon Elura 100 on VHS. When I tried to edit movie through Windows movie maker. I was shocked to find that when I connect the camcorder to notebook through USB port. the camcorder is not detected. It says a DV cable is required to transfer the video.

I do not have a DV cable and the notebook does not have a DV port.

So I recorded the movie on DVD using Lite-on LVW-1105 HC DVD recorder. The DVD is ready but there are certain portion which I want to discard and also want to place some digital effects.

How can I edit the DVD without compromising the Quality. Please Help.

Thanks.

In order to edit the video on your DVD, you will need to transfer the contents of the DVD to your PC and then using a video editing software suite to make the changes. As far as I'm aware of, most DVD authoring software gives the option to not re-encode video that is already DVD compliant, however I'm not sure if you will be able to apply the effects without recording the full track / recording.

I would also recommend checking if your laptop has a small 4-pin IEEE1394 connection on it. If this is present, all you need is a DV or Firewire cable that fits in your camcorder and has this matching connector. The majority of laptops I've seen dating back the last few years have this. You can also check in the device manager as the port would come up as "IEEE 1394 Bus host controller" Even if you don't have this port, you can easily pick up a PCMCIA card with a full size Firewire port for connecting your camcorder to. These cost around €20 in Europe or around $16 in the US and a Firewire cable can be picked up at just about any decent PC store.

Thanks Sean,

Yup the 4-pin firewire is in my mind. I would need to buy a PCMCIA and a dv cable both and I hope that should solve the problem. however it would take some time for me to find good quality of them here in india

But till that time I can try trial dvd authoring s/w, Can you recommend few?

would I need to Re-record the full dvd again to add effects? does the same apply if I want to edit few blank fillers inserted by camcorder during recording.

No, I can easily edit commercials of TV shows without reencoding.
