| HDR720/17 Firmware Update 11/07/05 Guide Problems Does anybody have a clue as to why Philips is showing a date of 11/07/05 for the HDRW720/17 Firmware Upgrade Software and Upgrade Readme File but still posting the same May 2005 firmware which I believe is 3.2. I keep hoping Philips will fix the TV Guide problem that I have of the unit resetting itself. I have to make sure the unit is shut off every night or this occurs. Twice I spent a few hours setting up the channels, order, etc. only to have it wiped out. This unit replaced a defective DVDR985. What a piece of crap that one was and I am beginning to think this one isn't much better. |

| Re: HDR720/17 Firmware Update 11/07/05 Guide Problems nhraj700, I'm not sure what you mean by the 'unit resetting itself' but I'm guessing you turn the unit on and find that the TVGuide is asking you to 'select a channel' or enter your zipcode which is part of the TVGuide set-up procedure. I have had this occur periodically and it is only eliminated by resetting the machine (see my other post in http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=155509). I have given up on spending the time in re-positioning the channels etc. when resetting. If the machine isn't re-set after having these problems then you will have more problems very soon. It would be interesting to list the problems I've had (which seem to have been mentioned in several other threads) and it all seems to come down to software. A new and improved 'upgrade' would be very welcome. This has been my experience and I welcome any suggestions from other 720 owners who have found any other 'work-arounds'. Oh, if you find a newer update than 3.2, let me know.

| Re: HDR720/17 Firmware Update 11/07/05 Guide Problems maxcat, yes the same problem your are describing. The unit forgets where it is located with regards to zipcode and prompts you for the whole damn guide setup again. Very annoying... |

| Re: HDR720/17 Firmware Update 11/07/05 Guide Problems Yep, that what happens to me, also, every two or three weeks. Kinda like clockwork. If you don't reset the machine the problems get worse but if I reset the machine it will work perfectly for a couple of weeks. Oddly, I just discovered that my all-in-one remote will trigger something in the machine when I'm trying to use the digital cable box. I was trying to get the HD to work and the 720 went crazy and locked up. Sorry I couldn't be more help but you know that you aren't alone in having this problem. If you find any other solutions then pass them along.

| Re: HDR720/17 Firmware Update 11/07/05 Guide Problems Oh wow, that sounds too familiar with respect to your remote problem. I have a Harmony Remote that when I press the More Activities Button, which should be a "Remote Only Command", triggers the HDRW720/17 to go into different menus if it is on. This button does not affect any other equipment I own. |

| Re: HDR720/17 Firmware Update 11/07/05 Guide Problems I'm glad you wrote back with your remote experience! I was very hesitant to mention my remote experience since it sounded so strange. I'm using the Sony Remote Commander CE and I'm wondering if the 720 is getting screwed-up by the remote (in the STB mode). I've been very careful not to use commands that interact with the 720 and I haven't had any problems for several days now (may be too soon to tell). Maybe, knowing this about the remote, will reduce the problems I've had. This kind of dialogue is what the forum is for!

| HDRW 720/02 Firmware update Hello I can confirm that the 720/02 firmware that Philips posted recently is also still the same CF 3.2 firmware issued in May 2005 as is the EPG software(o1.26). Why they redated it is not clear to me. I´m sorry to hear that you North Americans are having hassles with the Guide+ EPG installed in the /17. Mine is working just fine and has been for many months now. I live in Germany. |

| Re: HDR720/17 Firmware Update 11/07/05 Guide Problems I wonder if there's a bug in the 3.2 firmware (i didn't see any real improvments on the installation notes so i didn't bother install it, and have had no problems) - i understand there is a way of rolling back to a previous firmware - i've kept all previous firmware releases from 2.6 but alas there UK |
