Blu-Ray Player Firmware Updates

This is a starting list of some Blu-ray player firmware updates. When updating, read the directions carefully.

If there is an update that I have missed or needs to be updated, submit it.

What is firmware?

• It is defined as a type of program that runs within an electronic device.
• It is not categorized either as hardware or software, but a mix of both.
• The reason firmware is considered a combination of both categories is that firmware employs an executable program (.exe) and includes an integrated piece of the electronic device.

Purpose of firmware

• Firmware is stored on ROM chips (read only memory).
• Each time your electronic device boots up, firmware is booted as well.
• Firmware can store their instructions permanently and do not require a power source. While firmware is permanent, it has the advantage of being rewritten.
• Firmware can easily be rewritten enabling it to be upgraded with new features or to remove bugs and issues.
• It extends the life of products adding more functionality to them.

Firmware Upgrades

• Experiencing any problems with your electronic device
• Check for updates, the update could solve your problem

Limitations of firmware

• At some point the limitations will be reached in which firmware updates can no longer meet the requirements.
• This will require a physical hardware update

Keep also in mind that one of the new "features" might be support for Cinavia, and you might not be able to go back to an older version of the firmware, so check before updating. This "feature" also needs continuous additional processing power so that some other functionality might get compromised.
