you know it would be better for a newbie if you just reply with your ideas....reading an old thread is as irritating as sand papering your eyeball.

i know its rehashing old news but a consolidated knowledge is much better thanks

If you're unexperienced with CloneCD it's really best to stick to the default Profiles! They're set up for success (not for speed though, that's where the custom Profiles are set up for). The Game Profile should work fine with most games depending on your writer.

Yes. CloneCD is set up for success out-of-the-box as FutureProof often puts it Some protections might be harder to copy than others but the default Game Profile should work in most cases. If you need more help when the Profile doesn't work please tell us which writer you have.

I agree and sympathise with your sentiment; don't think the nOObys get blown off; there's a lot of info in the FAQ which is pinned to the top of this forum; unless we have an idea of what's been read, understood, experience level etcetera, it's difficult to know where to come in with what

The defaults aren't 'perfect' but they provide the majority of new users with success out-of-the-box. If someone has an issue and can't discover the root cause in the FAQ or Down & Dirty (also pinned to the top of the Forum) or by searching then it's cool to post. Netiquette rules apply here as much as any other forum. The old threads are linked to in many of the 'FAQ' type stickys around this site.

ASUS owners can use the default profiles to their hearts content. Plextors & Liteons, in the main, have their own separate issues. Plexys need AWS for SD2.51.021+ while liteys don't. A lot of Liteys are unreliable subs readers at speed while Plexys are limited to 8X read with subs. Knowing the burner & game title can avoid chat like we're having now. New posters generally start out by asking "how do I copy Gunman" (my first post!) when they really should be explaining what they've got, what they've done and what went wrong

well most newbies have just received a cd writer and are most eager to jump in and burn but then they see things like AWS, and SAO and DAO

and read a FAQ with a gazillion links to here there and everywhere.

i mean i have a yamaha 4416Z and i know it has SAO and RAW+96.

but where does it say its compatible with DAO (disk at once, i take it)

i mean why move the aspi and Xp thread when its related to CLoneCD and clonyxxl??

Hi, hank you all for your replies,

The fact that CloneCD game profile is can be used in most cases is part of what I needed to know.

But my question was even more basic, but the forum is so full of burners pros that everyone takes for granted that a newbie knows the answer. What I ment to ask was how do I know what copy-protection system the cd has ??

Some post made me check what Clony was, and I think that was looking for, a tool that could tell me the copy-protection. Am I right ??

I didn't get to clony before my post not because im lazy, but because between my work and my studies I have only 4 hours a day to sleep, so surfing hours to get this answer didnt look much fun

regards

Yes. ClonyXXL can be downloaded from http://kickme.to/englishclony but this tool doesn't detect SecuRom new very well. Use YaPS for that. But you don't really have to detect the protection when you use the Game Profile.

Sorry you read so much but I thought that the first Q & A in the Getting Started section of the clonecd faq would have got you going (btw, it's not old; that section was only added yesterday and both the two faqs I referred you to are constantly updated).
Anyway, glad to see you're now up and running.

I know this. Generally, we get positive feedback about the FAQ and Down & Dirty. The FAQ is reordered as philamber said and I will reorder D&D soon based on your observations

Burner brand & model - this is first-post info but I'll highlight the relevant FAQ section that explains what details to provide in a post. About the burner: here is a test on this Yammy, I know that Sven Rhode, the elby tester, also confirms its capabilities and I've ordered one based on its audio capability alone.

Shown here. It's off the burner properties (right click - you should do this more often, it seems); you have to have a blank disc inserted. CloneCD will auto choose the best write method. If RAW-DAO is not an option when it should be then the burner is not in DMA Mode or a reboot is needed for some reason
