Btw, are you trying to copy a pressed original or a copy? If it's a copy, clonecd may not work with a securerom new protected cd. (It does work for me but doesn't for everyone.)

Also, I note that nealh suggested you burn with don't repair subs off. I suggest you try again with don't repair subs on (which is the default in the game cd profile and which works for me).

As for clony, I don't use it because I think it's unnecessary. You know what the protection is here so you can either use the standard game cd profiles (which cover all standard protections) or the securerom new profile contained in the profiles available for download in the profiles sticky on this forum.

It is an original disk. I have two computers and my son and I like to play multiplayer so, we need two disks.

I will try to burn with do not repair subs off and see what happens.

Will use Toshi 1402 and LTD 163 as readers on my 24/32/40 Litey writers on good and bad media - 12 test writes coming up It's the cross tests I hate (btw, bad media is hard to find now in Canberra!)

Well as it happened, my son got a copy of die hard nakatomi plaza today so I experimented with that securom new cd.

In all cases, I used the default game cd profiles with clonecd and burnt at 8x.

First, I made a standard back-up to a cdr (verbatim data life plus) using my Ltd-163 as reader and my Ltr-24102B as writer. Average reading speed was about 22x. The copy was successful.

I then copied the back-up copy to a cdrw (Imation - I assume that that constitutes sufficiently lousy media for you fp). That copy too was successful.

I then tried copying the original to a cdrw (Imation, in all cases) but this time using the Ltr-24102B as reader. Average reading speed was about 23x. Again successful.

Then I copied that cdrw copy to another cdrw again using the Ltr-24102B as reader. Again successful.

Conclusion: the default game cd profiles work fine and this cd isn't any more difficult to copy with clone cd than any previous securerom protected title.

Btw, fp if you have any officeworks stores in Canberra, you can probably get Imations there. Here in Melbourne their stores seem to be well stocked with Imations of every conceivable size, shape, colour and capacity. Oh, and if you're wondering why I have Imation cdrws, it's simply because they wee the only high speed cdrws I could find when I needed a few. Fortunately, high speed Verb dlp cdrws are now available.

Everyone: I think that I have discovered what the problem is with not being able to burn NWN might be. During the read process, everything goes fine until about 90%. At 90%, the time remaining goes up to 58 minutes. It has only taken me 10 minutes to get to the 90% remaining, burning at 8x.

I have never had this happen before with other games but it happens with this disk. This just started to happen last night. I believe the burner might be having a problem. This leads me to believe that the burner might be a fault. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

”F:\nwn 3.ccd” is the play disc image. It is a good RAW image and works in D-Tools without emulation. It was read using the default Game CD profile except that speeds were changed to maximum. “Fast Error Skip: Yes” means that FES was default which is “Auto”.

  • Do tests with a Toshiba SD-M1402 read
  • argh, more permutations among the other equipment and different media
…back later…

FP, I'm not going to quote your last post as it's far too long.
However, I noted from your logs that although you said that you'd disabled AWS, in fact, it's been on for each of your burns. I can't see why it would make any difference mind you since there aren't any weak sectors to amplify.

However, I suspect that although you, no doubt, disabled AWS at some time in the settings, it's been re-enabled, possibly by default when you upgraded to the latest version. (Might explain why you've had problems with 2002 fifa world cup too).

Btw, as you may have noticed from my previous post, in copying die hard nakatomi plaza, the read, in each case, was done at max not at 8x.

[Tdk multi speed compatible , I don't know what it means either which is why I won't use them ]

dt05928, either there's something wrong with your writer or, more likely, with your original cd (perhaps it's scratched). Making an image of a securerom cd shouldn't take any longer, well perhaps a few seconds, than making an image of an unprotected cd. There are no bad sectors and, therefore, nothing to slow down the extraction process.

NBR, although you haven't posted on this thread, if you read it, note that I also attempted to make a copy of die hard nakatomi plaza with cdmate using the default securerom settings. It failed which only shows again that your 24102B and mine perform differently at least where securerom new is concerned.

LOL, I knew someone would mention that! AWS is disabled off the burner settings as I mentioned, and it overides the profile write setting - I used the default GameCD profile which has AWS checked in the profile I only mentioned it for that reason

Are you absolutely sure it's disabled on your burner settings. LOL It is on mine and when I use the default game cd profile which has it checked, to the best of my recollection, the log files show:
"Amplify weak sectors: no".

Anyway, I picked up a copy of warcraft III today and I'll check with that one tonight. I'll post the settings and log if I'm right.

Btw, I figured out what multi-speed compatible means. It means that so long as you can burn at 1,2,4 and maybe even, wow, 8x, you can't sue them or take them to the small claims tribunal when 85 of your 100 cd spindle turn out to be useless when burnt at any reasonable speed for a modern cdrw.

News Flash....

A default Game CD read from my Liteon LTD-163D GHR3 works everywhere. Default Game CD reads from everything else do not work - a setting in the Game CD profile is screwing things up - probably the addition of audio subs or the Don't Repair - more to follow.

I used a custom profile which is data subs only on the read, nothing on the write and a read/write of any combination works everywhere.

Interestingly, only the 163 & ASUS 48x backups play the first "ATARI" splash screen properly while it's minimised for all other reads/writes backups. The 163 can use the default profile while the ASUS needs a custom profile.

It's definately SecuROM, because a read without data subs does not work but works with emulation in D-Tools.

YAPS found it np

ClonyXXL didn't

I'll try again with your custom profile and post the result.

Ok people, let me see if I understand what you guys are saying about the Lite-on and NWN. I am a server Admin, I know NT and Win 2000, but not a lot about burning software.

I can only burn NWN with the Lite-on if I do not use as the reader. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Read & write with a Liteon - use the custom profile (see the FAQ thread) or just data subs on the read, all off for the write. Just don't use the default Game CD profile

9 (gold) working test discs for NWN plus coutless emu tests in D-Tools. The 21 coloured discs are from a single device test!

philamber, JB has heaps of Imation!

I tried the custom profile using the 24102B as reader/writer (i.e. read data subs only; all off for write) on warcraft III (since nwn and war3 were released same day, I assume they have the same secureom version). Copy failed.

Got the same error message when attempting to let the back-up autorun from my dvd as for other failures - "This program is corrupt or incomplete. If you have downloaded........"

Fp, have you tried using the 24102B as reader/writer? I suspect it may fail where the 32x Litey succeeds. If so, and the back-up worked, could you post the profile used? It doesn't matter that much to me since I don't really have a problem with the Ltd-163 as a reader but there are plenty out there who don't.

However, I note maddog30's post that 3.3.4.1 succeeded where 4.0.1.9 failed. Seems like there's something for olli to fix in the next version.

Using a liteon 24102B

After burning three coasters using version 4.001 and 3.200 of CloneCD on the default game profile using princo 80 min X48 cds.. i finally had success.. Using version 4.019 of clone I changed the cd to an opus 74 min platinum and used the securom profile..

Installs off either my burner or pioneer dvd... and dosent need a crack if playing thru the burner...but asks for the cd if in the dvd drive...

What a relief... thought i'd come across my first uncopiable cd ... but not quite yet

I know i have thrown in too many variables between my failures to success to accertain which thing actually fixed the burn .. but oh well it might help someone. By the way on my coaster cds i could not install the game any further than cd 2... as it just hung on 1% on cd3, even thou the images installed fine thru Daemon tools. cheers

Did you use your dvd or your writer as the reader?

not true all of my securom new titles only work from the drive they were installed from even the originals. all you have to do when you get the error message is keep clicking cancel and it will start up
