Since you state that you have no trouble with any other DVDs and it is just this one suggest that there is a issue with that particular DVD, can you please give the movie title of this problematic DVD ?

also are you ripping to the hard drive first and then converting the ripped files from the hard drive which is what I recommend when doing any conversion.

    SJ,
The DVD is "Eagles - Hell Freezes Over", and I have tried it 3 different ways, directly from internal and external drive as well as copy to hard drive and convert. I am able to copy to the hard drive but not convert.

I just tried to play it from my hard drive and while the file structure seems fine, there is a major problem with the files. it will play but is pixelated beyond being able to see and the sound is gone. The disk plays badly with VLC media player, lots of lines and stutters, Nero Showtime plays it fine. Have copied it using passkey to unlock, now trying DVDFab to copy and it is copying, so far, will let you know if that is any better.

If the original DVD has playback issues try cleaning the disc, if you can copy to the hard drive without having playback issues but still have trouble during the conversion try changing the settings for the A/V codec in common settings.

Okay, using DVDFab to copy the disk works better, I can play the VOB files now, and the preview plays them fine. Still no joy on the conversion, All the codecs were set to software except h.264, so I changed that to software and same error after 3 seconds. None of the oother options are supported by my computer. Shouldn't it work if the preview works? Using Ver 8.0.3.2, just converted AVATAR and no problems. Strange....

Disk works great in a stand-alone player, no scratches or anything.

We are talking about the "Hell Freezes Over" special that was aired on MTV, which you recorded to a DVD right ?

That a weird error code as it's not even listed.

I wonder what a 502 error actually relates to?

Looks to me like it might be an encoder error and these usually result from a bad rip.

That DVD has been out for a long time now and DVDFab shouldn't have any difficulty processing it so it looks to me like it might be a dirty or damaged disc.

Standalone players are much more tolerant of errors and it's common for discs to be playable despite being unable to rip them.

I'd suggest following SJ's advice and see if you can clean the disc as even fingerprints can cause problems if they're in the wrong place.

If it's scratched though you might have to resort to more severe methods.

Try disabling "Pathplayer" in common settings and re-rip the DVD, also if it has a menu use either main movie or custom mode to do the rip.

Okay, turned off pathplayer, copied main movie to hard drive and tried it again. Same problem. Checked teh DVD avain, no finferprints or scratches. This DVD has only been out of the case once right after I bought it. Files on the hard drive play really well on the DVDFab preview.

I try to not post other software in the DVDFab subforums since it is discouraged.
    I am this time .
Try to open the ripped files in DVDShrink.
Does it give any errors or not accept the files?
DVDShrink can be picky so is a good test software.
Next just to make sure .What is the file structure of the rip?
Is it a DVD compliant folder & file set ?
If it is then maybe there is some corruption in your DVDFab installation (even if it is working with other movies.)
Try StormJumper's Clean uninstall of DVDFab link in his signature . Then install the latest version of DVDFab.

Okay, DVDShrink works fine. I did see something that may be a problem, the audio is a format I have never seen before. LPCM 2 channel. Could this be a problem for DVDFab? IDVD fab sees it as PCM.2 and it also has DTS/5. Unfortunately I don't know if my media player supports either and the profiles I generally use (Generic and AVI) only seem to allow audio copy.

I will do a clean uninstall, although I have tried it on two computers and while it possible I have a bad install on both, is it unlikely. Unfortunately I have some time constraints as we are in the middle of a construction project and I have to get the house ready for painting. Reinstalling DVDFab is lower on my list of things I can do this week.

I remember a topic here not to long ago where we figured out DVDDecrypter could rip an .ac3 file .
The only problem is I think the DVD files in that topic were already .ac3 & just the audio was wanted . So a conversion might need to be done.
In the guide SJ posted BeSweet was mentioned as the converter to .ac3 & some have problems with it's conversion. I like BeSweet but I've added to it.
@ SJ ; I take it DVDFab can't do the conversion from LCPM to .ac3 ?

    Hi Robert

    Welcome to the MyCE community

Drum's prolem seems to have been a audio format issue which he states in post#13, since then it has been over a week now since his last post so maybe that was the problem.

again welcome nice to see a new member

I don't know yet, I haven't figured out to deal with the sound issue yet, but I am pretty sure there were no illegal characters, just EAGLES.
