MP3 Players and portable video players Discuss, DVDFab crashes when doing iPod conversion at Consumer Electronic products forum; I have a DVD called "An Evening With Harry Chapin". When I try to do an iPod conversion DVDFab crashes. It creates a 0 byte m4v file, shuts down, and brings up a diolog box to send crash information to the DVDFab team. Note: this only happens with 1 DVD.

Note: this only happens with 1 DVD. Every other DVD I try works fine.

Note: I've most recently tried this with version 3.1.3.6 Beta, but it's been happening for many versions.

Note: in a much earlier version it did convert, but the audio was out of sync with the video.

Hi Randy,

Until Fengtao gets back to you...have you tried ripping this disc to your hdd first and then try the mp4 conversion from the hdd? Sometimes this 2 step process will work.

Concert DVDs with DTS audio tracks have caused problems with earlier versions. Try the AC3-5.1 if there is one on the disc.

Hi,

Thanks for the tip, but I already tried your suggestion.

I normally rip to the hdd and then convert to the mp4. For this DVD I tried it both ways.

Hi,

There are 2 audio tracks on this DVD.

AC-3/5
DTS PCM/2

I tried both of them. In both cases DVDFab crashes.

As I mentioned, in an earlier version of DVDFab I was able to do the mp4 conversion but the audio was out of sync with the video. I suspect that there is some authoring problem with the DVD that DVDFab can't cope with.

Make sure you have the latest version. Ting found a bug very recently that only caused problems with AC-3/5 (vs. 5.1) audio tracks. Watch for a fix in the release notes when updates are announced.

Thanks signals...

I'm currently using the latest version (3.1.3.6 Beta). I'm also watching the release notes. They sure are responsive. I'm very impressed with their support.

What are your machine specs please. How many processes do you have running when this happens?

It's 3.2 ghz pentium 4 with nothing else running. All other DVDs are fine. It's only this one that crashes.

Hi Fengtao,

Any progress on this issue since I sent the crash report?

I tried all new versions as they came out, including 3.1.5.5 Beta, and they still crash when I start the iPod conversion.

Thanks in advance,

Randy

Hi Fengtao,

FYI...

I saw some new versions fixed crash problems, so I've been testing with each release. I tested it with 3.1.8.0 and it still crashes.
