HP announced a deal
with Panasonic in the beginning of the year where HP would add support for DVD-RAM to its burners and Panasonic would add support for DVD+R to its recorders. While Panasonic's recorders with support for DVD+R have been out for quite some time the new dvd840i and dvd840e LightScribe burners will be HP's first drives with support for DVD-RAM. Besides support for DVD-RAM the dvd840 burners appear to be identical to the recently introduced dvd740 drives.

The dvd840i is available in Europe now from about €70 while the external dvd840e is listed from about €100. More info about the drives are available here and here.
