Small Canadian techie poll indicates a preference for HD-DVD

This shows what a mess we have on our hands. Both blue laser camps are struggling to garner support from Hollywood for content and have always felt that this was the key to success in the marketplace, yet the consumer apparently is not paying attention to this aspect yet. It's no secret that Blu-ray has 80% of Hollywood locked up tighter than their AACS -yet consumers in this poll want HD-DVD!

Of course this sampling is very small and not representative of the Canadian public by any stretch of the imagination. In addition, since the poll was taken at Digital Home Canada, these readers are probably more well informed than the general public. Which is a good thing, as this is a very complex situation. But something that we can wonder about is this. Who will the people that do not frequent such sites, or at least those that are not closely following the debate, go to when it is time to make their purchase? Could it be a techie acquaintance? We have to wonder what impact enthusiasts will have on the high definition marketplace!

This is only a pool of 554 readers of a web page, but the results are still fun to read. It indicates that many have decided to completely forgo a player next year. However over 55% say they will take the plunge. What is also shown is 59.8% say they are going for HD-DVD, even though the precious Hollywood content is not as bountiful. Can we guess why?  Right now, we have to ask ourselves what would we tell our family or friends if we were approached by them for help in making a decision on a new player.

Our own poll here in the lower screenshot, shows a divide as well and it has become a much closer race in the past weeks, as more information comes forward about AACS, Managed Copy and it's effects on the consumer. Why not take a moment, if you haven't already and place your vote in the Freak Poll, then give everyone your thoughts in the poll reaction area.
