Image Burn, sign off hangup.

Sorry to post again but this is probably the more correct forum. I have been very impressed with ImgBurn and have used it with great success producing Blu-ray disks. My problem is that when I exit the program I have to disengage my Trend Micro virus sercurity software, otherwise it hangs till a not responding message appears 90sec. So after going to the Virus software people and ImgBurn I have decided not to renew my Trend Micro software. So my big question is, what virus software do you guys use that has no conflicts with ImgBurn??
I would like 'Bit Defender total Sercurity 2012' or Symantec Norton 360 ver 6. Anyone that can help your info would be appreciated, cheers.

I just rescued my sister's computer from an ill-advised Norton AV install. I recommend taking that one off your short list . I use Avast with no hassles, Imgburn or otherwise.

and I've used it on machines running Microsoft Security Essentials, Norton Endpoint Security and McAfee VirusScan Enterprise.

To be honest, if there really was a problem with it on Trend, I'd have expected to hear about it from more people than just yourself.

Thanks for your reply 'Lightening UK'. Yes it has me stumped. I have tried lots of things to help isolate the cause. The only thing that seems to influence it is when I turn off my modem ImgBurn exits after 5 seconds or if I turn off my Trend Micro sercurity software you can exit it immediately. I have even added ImgBurn to the exceptions list with no change. I run a desktop computer i5 2600 system with Win 7 64 bit etc etc. I mainly do photography and video editing, no games! Just wish I could ace it.

I also doubt Imgburn is the issue here.

Check the event viewer.

I followed your suggestion and used Win 7 'Event Viewer'. That was all new to me as I have not used it before. The result was I have identified the program hang event ID as 1002 and the event detail is as below:-

This unfortunately means nothing to me, can you or someone else help me to understand? I also found a reference to an earlier ImgBurn and McAffee issue, perhaps it is as I suspect my Trend Micro software??

No idea about your event detail but, like other users, I've had no issues either with Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials.

Forget the A/V issue, thats not your problem, it has to be something else in your configuration.

'Chef' your reply contains nothing I could respond to, can you not elaborate? I would like some constructive help please, if anyone has the knowledge of Win 7 64bit and Image Burn, cheers.

I have imgburn running with various windooze versions, name them all from w2000 upwards.

Never ever I had a problem which came from imgburn!!

The output from your event viewer only shows values WITHOUT their necessary relative info.

I used Imgburn for XP and Windows7 and on various desktop and laptops with different programs installed and had no problems burning. I think it's more related to your file system has a corruption and need to be either uninstalled and reinstalled or your system O/S need to be reinstalled from the ground up to fix the problem your having. I doubt from many posters here and me that it is a Imgburn problem otherwise as one said we would've heard more then just from one person as well as the Author would have said something about it by now or told the users of Imgburn about it.

Thanks 'Cool colours' for your reply. It's funny that most of the posters keep saying to me that they have no trouble with Image Burn and indicating that my system is at fault. I don't dispute that! I can use Image Burn and it has been exceptionally helpful in burning my "bluray" projects. I actually blame my Trend Micro Security software, because with that's turned off Image Burn can be exited immediately. My quest here on the forum is get a steer on what my problem is that gets fixed when my security software is turned off. A little message 'saving settings' is seen in the bottom of the top window of the Image burn window when I go file / exit. I was wondering if that would give someone a lead to my problem. Perhaps the security software has a problem with that??? Well thanks for your responses anyway and if you can't help further I can cope with what I have got, Image Burn is too valuable to trash.

Have you tried going into Trend's advanced settings and disabling or reducing the sensitivity of any advanced heuristics it might use? It certainly sounds like Trend may be mistakenly interpreting Imgburn's actions as suspicious. You may also try adding the .ibg file type that Imgburn uses to Trend's list of exclusions.

In addition to deanwitty's queries, does the log for the current AV show any activity going on when you run and exit ImgBurn? Also also, could your turning off the modem result in the antivirus changing its state/writing to its log, too?

Personally I'd go for a complete uninstall (and 'clean' if Trend offer a tool for such a thing), reboot, reinstall and update (patch, service packs or whatever Trend call them).

Even if a standard install of Trend has an issue with something ImgBurn is doing when it saves its settings (I can't think what?!), adding ImgBurn to the 'Exceptions' list should get around that.

I don't have any Trend Micro AV on my computer but I'm taking a guess at this.
I read some posts where some softwares that can use multi-core processors & are set to do that can cause ImgBurn to hang. I don't think the ones I read about were AV software.
I got this from a Trend Micro site:
Quote:
For Smart Scan mode, multiple processors or multi-core processors are required.
So if you have your Trend Micro set for auto "Smart Scan" it could be the problem.

Ok so I just installed the latest Trend as a free trial (in a virtual machine) and it seems that it doesn't actually cause it to freeze, it just makes writing the settings to the registry REALLY slow!

You can see for yourself if you run Process Monitor and add a filter for a process named ImgBurn.exe

Instead of writing out all the settings (about 500+ in total) in a second, it can only do about 5 per second (that's probably subject to the speed of your machine).

Adding ImgBurn.exe to the exceptions list sorted that out for me.

Thank-you 'Lightening UK'. I read your reply and wondered why when I tried this before it didn't work, but that it had for you. Then I thought about it, when I did it originally I copied the shortcut to ImgBurn from my desktop to the exceptions list, and it failed to change the long hang time. This time I went to c:\Program Files (x86)/ImgBurn and copied the application file to the exceptions list, 'BINGO' problem fixed. Thank-you for taking the time to fix this for me and possibly other Trend Micro users. I thought the shortcut would do the same but it obviously does not. Thanks once again for your tenacity.
