Is there something deficient with my setup? Why can't I get 1080p resolution?

Thanks!

I would guess the monitor does not support HDCP over the DVI port.

I would try a DVI to HDMI adapter for your video card, and running a HDMI cable between your monitor and PC.

HDCP decryption is required for Bluray playback at resolutions higher than 480p.

I've checked your Samsung T240HD monitor: It is HDCP compliant through both DVI and HDMI. But your video card might not be: Not all GeForce 8600GTS-based cards support HDCP. Such support varies by card manufacturer/vendor. And some software Blu-Ray players will not even output any picture at all from a Blu-Ray disc if either the video card or the monitor is not HDCP-compliant and a DVI or HDMI connection is used (in which case, the user must use the analog VGA connection between the video card and monitor).

As for the person suggesting a DVI to HDMI adapter for the video card, it would not have helped if the card itself does not support HDCP.

Try dropping PowerDVD for one for playback and get the free player Media Player Classic Home Cinema. Then once you get the player, browse for the largest *.m2ts file and play it. The only thing MPC-HC doesn't do is do the Bluray Java stuff like menus and such. But it can play back the movie just fine.
