Getting Started with High Definition Discuss, hdtv at High Definition forum; I just bought a Sony 52" LCD and, like one of the above questions, am trying to make sure that everything is "hooked up". I already have an Onkyo cd/dvd player, Onkyo A/V receiver which is about 6yrs old. ANYWAY....the new tv has HDMI and, needles to say, the A/V receiver

I already have an Onkyo cd/dvd player, Onkyo A/V receiver which is about 6yrs old. ANYWAY....the new tv has HDMI and, needles to say, the A/V receiver does not. I have an HD Direct Tv receiver which does have HDMI port. I have everything working but was wondering how you would recommend set up. I currently am running component in to my tv but would I still want HDMI cables run to my tv as well? Is there any benefit from running both HDMI and component?

Use HDMI from the HD box to the TV, with optical or coax to the receiver.
