Hello,

I recently purchased an HP DVD drive (dvd1050) and connected it to my laptop (HP dv6000 Pavilion) through a USB cable using an external box (5.25 USB 2.0 external enclosure, the dealer said I can mount an internal HD Drive also on the same box!)

I read the threads here, but being a newbie, there are a lot of terms I don't understand, so if you would please help.

The Drive in the Box can read all drives but will not burn any CD/DVD (the max I got is 3% and then nothing happens), though I did notice that it will burn smaller files (<1mb) without any problems and when I tried to burn about 700mb of data on DVD, it ejected with errors at 80%; howsoever whenever I put large amount of data it won't burn.

The disc can be erased as well without any problem.

On a website I see the specifications of the drive I got, it said interface FireWire; does that mean it won't work at all through a USB. No additional drivers were provided with the box, I use WinVista.

I presume I am using a USB2.0 on my laptop and connecting it to the box, so what are the possible solutions.

And also the DVD writer worked fine when I connected it to a desktop as an internal drive and even on that desktop it did not work through the USB.

Sorry for the detailed question, please help, thanks.

HI,

Just bought a new LG GH22 LS40 dvd writer and placed it inside a SATA enclosure. I'm having the same problems. Reads perfectly well, but burning process only gets to 1% and then NERO says "device not available" I think our problems might be related.

Anyone please help. Thanks

hi sbaw2x

Yes, I was having the similar problem, it would say that the device is not available. I returned it and the retailer fixed the enclosure, though I do not know how and what he did.

Not a lot of help on this forum, sadly.

Yes it did work. Burned large amounts of data. I think there must be some error with the chip set.

I had a prob with my old burner and then I bought a new gh22 and it worked fine for 1 month and now my computer won't even recognize it.In device manager it says windows cannot load driver error code 39.
I tried to roll back the driver and install a new driver but still wont work.
I can't even install the driver from the cd because My Computer won't even recognize the dvd drive.Very frustrating .
Any help would gladly be appreciated. Its a fairly new desktop running vista.
